Wild About Flowers for PPA295

A couple of weeks ago, I shared that I don’t feature flowers a lot on my cards.  Since then, it seems like I’ve featured flowers far more often than I normally would.  With Bermuda Bay and Cucumber Crush as principal players in Michelle Quinno’s color challenge at the Pals Paper Arts this week, I couldn’t NOT use Wild About Flowers…  Here’s my card for this week’s challenge:

And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Wild About Two-Step Stamping.  Two-step Stamping is a technique that’s been around for quite some time (stamp one image and then stamp a coordinating image) – photopolymer stamps make this technique A LOT easier to achieve a perfect look.  Wild About Flowers contains three arrangements of wild flowers that are easy and fun to stamp.  Because the stamp is offered in photopolymer, it’s see-through and super-easy to build the flowers with the colors of your choice.  I simply stamped the stems/leaves with Cucumber Crush (there’s a little arrow on the stamp to indicate which side is “up”).  I then stamped the flower images in Bermuda Bay (making sure the arrow was pointing the same way as the arrow on the stems/leaves).  So easy!  I’m not sure if I’d ever find this flower in nature with a bright aqua-blue hue, but I’m sure I’d love it if I did.

  • A Diagonal Band.  I had this card all pulled together when I thought I should add a Bermuda Bay band behind the sentiment panel.  Rather than just add a centered strip across the card, I opted for a diagonal band.  I decided to not center the band, either, which allowed me to play with the placement of the focal panel.  The addition of the band really changed up the card – so glad I played around with it a bit before gluing everything down.  🙂Wild About Flowers, World of Dreams, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PPA295
  • A Sentiment Everyone Should Own.  I am such a fan of inspiring and uplifting projects – I love a card that says “woo hoo” or “you are awesome” because everyone can enjoy a pat on the back, right?  This sentiment from World of Dreams is perfect.  Isn’t that what everyone wants to be – someone who makes other people happy?  Not only does this card offer a sweet image of wild flowers, but it offers a message that melts my heart.

  3. Wonderful card Brian. Would you help us with measurements of the many layers?

    • Shari – thanks! The largest Crumb Cake panel is 5-1/4″ x 4″ – each of the outside panels is just 1/8″ shorter on each side. The inside Crumb Cake panel is 4-3/4″ x 3-1/4″ – each of the inside panels is just 1/8″ shorter on each side. Hope that helps!
