Grateful Bunch for PPA297

Along with the arrival of Spring (in the form of warm, wonderful weather in the South), colors move seamlessly from dark and rich to bright and cheery.  For this week’s Pals Paper Arts challenge, Jackie Diediker has selected three colors that define Spring beautifully – Wisteria Wonder, Daffodil Delight and Pool Party.  Could there be a happier combination of colors, a more perfect pairing of soft and bright?  Here’s my card for this week’s challenge:

PPA-297-Apr21Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Grateful Bunch Bundle.  When the new catalog rolls around in June 2016, you’ll see both the Grateful Bunch stamp set and the Blossom punch inside its pages.  What you won’t see, though, is the 15% off bundle of the two.  If you want this stamp set and punch (and you know you do), then now’s the best time in the history of the entire world to pick it up [slight exaggeration].

You can see my entire list of bundles that will no longer be bundled in the new catalog here.
  • Just Add Black.  These soft colors don’t pop on their own – then needed a little help.  The Basic Black sentiment and thin black borders help to offset the colors a bit so that they can shine.  That’s a tip I learned from my dear friend Lydia Fiedler – I was working through a card over the phone with her one Saturday morning last Fall, and she said, “Silly!  There’s no black on that card.”  I added black, and the whole thing came together perfectly.  That’s a smart woman!  Now you will tell others that I just taught you, and your friends with think I’m really smart.  What fun!
  • Bold Stripes.  These bold stripes of cardstock create a beautiful backdrop for this wonderful sentiment and fun flowers.  I really love creating my own patterns with cardstock.  I created a fun pattern by trimming the same width of Pool Party and Wisteria Wonder strips and a slightly thinner Daffodil Delight strip.  I used a similar technique on this card from last week, and I created a video of this technique last year – you can see it here. 1. That Lydia is a smart woman! I adore this card Brian – the way you have used the colours is so retro and cool. You have made these colours fun and modern. And I will tell all my friends about the black cardstock, but we already know that you are smart.

  2. Wow these strips make the card just fabulous. I love that the strips of Daffodil Delight are thinner than the others, it’s just the perfect balance. The pearls are a fabulous finishing touch. Another stunner Brian, love it!

  8. Love the mix of graphic and floral. You say you don’t do flowers, but you do them very well! I think I may case the striped background for a stamp camp to show my guests how to use strips of card stock that are too small for some uses but great for making stripes. I love everything about this card.

  9. Brian you are the King of so many techniques, and stripes are on the list!
