Pop of Paradise for GDP038

Today is the second day in a row that I’m featuring Pop of Paradise, a new stamp set in Stampin’ Up!’s 2016 Annual Catalog.  While I try to mix up projects from day to day to give you the biggest variety possible, these two projects are nothing alike.  Yesterday’s card was a soft and sweet “thinking of you” card (if you missed it, you can see it here), and today’s is a bold and fun “hello”.  Same set, different looks.  Here’s my card for this week’s Global Design Project sketch challenge:

  • Pop of Paradise.  I love when a stamp set has multiple images and sentiments that can be used for a variety of occasions or reasons.  There’s a wide versatility with the Pop of Paradise stamp set – yesterday’s card was a sweet “thinking of you” and today’s is a bold “hello.”  A flamingo, tropical leaves, a pineapple and big heart – surrounded by great sentiments.  This set is sure to be one I’ll use a lot over the next year – what a great set!  How do you plant to use it?

  • Snipping the leaves.  I stamped these leaves from Pop of Paradise in Emerald Envy and snipped them out.  They are bold, graphic leaves and super-easy to snip.  I started by cutting all the way around the leaves.  When I was done, I went back to each indention in the leaves and snipped out the notch.  It’s a great effect with every little work.  The leaves gave a wonderful accent to the fun and playful “hello” – don’t you think?Pop of Paradise, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, GDP038
  • Embracing the Unexpected.  There are some really great colors in the Playful Palette Designer Series Paper Stack – Basic Black, Blushing Bride, Emerald Envy, Peekaboo Peach and Sweet Sugarplum.  They are all showcased with Very Vanilla.  My favorites are the pages that are pages that feature one of the colors with Very Vanilla as they are easiest to work with.  I love this striped page – this mix of colors can be somewhat off-putting (it’s almost like there’s just one too many colors), so I chose to accent the unexpected colors.  By bordering the sentiment and panel with Sweet Sugarplum and placing the panel on an Emerald Envy card base, I embraced the unexpected colors and made them the focal point of the card.

  3. This stamp set is definitely a” gotta have” for me.
Like your card ! The leaves add a tropical flavor (not sure you can apply flavor to a card description ,but it works for me ) along with the colors .
    Enjoy your day !

  4. The snipped leaves are really effective. I applaud you for using the side of the paper that really does feel “too much” and showing that it can work. You’ve inspired me – I flipped throug the stack and put it to one side. Today, I’m going to play with it!

  5. Thanks Brian for showing you can tone down printed paper. Love these colors!

  6. Hi Brian:

Black always makes everything pop! This card is just fabulous and the new colors are gorgeous. I never thought SU could beat the colors that are retiring but they have. The color combo on this card is definitely the WOW factor. Great job as always.

  10. Hard to believe you can get such different cards from the one set. Great to see the different uses. I do like this bold take on the sketch challenge this week though 🙂

  11. Great to see this set without the Flamingo being used Brian. I’m fancying the DSP as I love the Painter’s Palette set – but some have said they don’t like it. What are your thoughts?
