Layered Love for a Red, White and Blue PPA Color Challenge

I’m thrilled to be hosting this week’s Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge – PPA307.  What fun!  I selected a combination of colors that could easily be used to make a patriotic card (Independence Day is just around the corner!).  Still, I didn’t go the patriotic route for this card.  With Night of Navy, Pool Party and Real Red as the base colors, here’s my card for this week’s challenge:

Layering Love, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PPA307

And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Layering Love with Sweet & Sassy.  I adore the sentiments and images in Layering Love, the stamp set I used for this “live, laugh, love” sentiment.  Each one of the sentiments in the set pairs with one of the new Layering Framelits (circles, ovals, squares and hearts).  I used one of the Sweet & Sassy Framelits (hearts) to crop this sentiment.

  • Enhanced White Embossing.  Veramark is a great slow-drying ink that is perfect for heat embossing – the Stampin’ Emboss Powder sticks perfectly to the ink.  If you are embossing with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder and want to make sure you get a super-clean image, stamp with Whisper White Craft Ink (slow-drying pigment ink) and sprinkle your powder of that.  It’ll help to ensure there are fewer white spots on your image.

  • Think Ahead.  When assembling the layers of a card, it’s important to consider every step along the way before you start gluing everything down.  Here’s an example, I snipped the Night of Navy and Pool Party strips just a little bit longer than I needed them to be so that I could glue them down to the Whisper White base and then snip them off for a quick-and-easy-and-clean band.  With that in mind, it was important for me to complete that step before gluing the Whisper White panel to the Real Red panel beneath it – it would have been a lot harder to snip along the white panel’s edges if the red panel was already there.  You’re welcome!  🙂
