Just a Note…on a Paper Airplane

I always worry about sharing cards here that are too simple.  I don’t want the masses to rise up in retaliation and make me wish I’d made a more complicated card.  That said, sometimes you don’t really need a card to be super-complicated.  Sometimes you need a straightforward (and adorable) card that just says “hi.”  Here’s a simple card I’m excited to share with you today:

Shooting Star, Sliding Star Framelits, Picture Perfect, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Shooting Star Bundle.  This simple card combines the whimsy of Shooting Star stamp set (the airplane) with the sophistication of Picture Perfect (the sentiment).  They work perfectly together, don’t they?  While the Shooting Star Bundle is designed around spinner cards (what fun!), the images are adorable on their own.  I stamped this paper airplane on Thick Whisper White with Archival Basic Gray and cropped it with the coordinating Sliding Star Framelits Dies.  The bee, the beehive, the world, the moon – all are great images.  The paper airplane just makes me happy.

  • A Simple White Frame.  I use it a lot – and if you follow me, then you expect to see it every once in a while.  A simple, white frame around a focal point can really crispen it up a bit, don’t you think?  If you are framing a piece of cardstock, a frame of Whisper White will do the trick.  If you are framing a piece of Designer Series Paper, you’ll want the support of Thick Whisper White.  Ever since Thick Whisper White made its way into the catalog last year, I’ve been free to crispily border anything.  What fun!
  • Neutrals.  I’ve shown this color combination several times over the years because I just love it.  Crumb Cake and Basic Gray are a beautiful combination of neutrals.  I don’t think the brown in Crumb Cake is SUPPOSED TO work with the gray in Basic Gray, but I didn’t make the rules – I just know they look great together.  If you also like this combination of colors, feel free to save this:Stampin' Up! Here’s a Stampin’ Up! video that shows you how you can create a fun slider/spinner card with the dies and stamps from this fun bundle:

What do you think?  Do you love this simple card as much as I do?  Of course you can spruce it up with different papers or sentiments, but I love how the simple accents of white really pop against this simple, neutral backdrop.

Thanks for stopping by today!

  3. Love the simplicity and cuteness of this card! Love it!

  4. Brian, one of the reasons I follow you is your style of cards. This card says more than cards with ribbons, layer upon layer of busy paper and sparkles. BUT the main reason I follow you is your sense of humor!

  5. Love this idea. So clean and classy.

  6. So sophisticated! I never thought I would say that about a paper airplane! Lol! Love it!!

I love your card! I have trouble making clean and simple cards, myself. I need to remember to put a frame/mat on them. That really classes it up!
If I eventually order that stamp set/bundle, it will be because I could not resist that paper airplane. The rest of it is cute enough, but I love the paper airplane.

  8. Hi Brian! The minute I saw this card I thought “third grade” LOL! That was the year I learned to make paper airplanes and boy, I made me an entire air force of them. That would have been fine except I decided they needed to fly in class and that they did. I won’t even tell you the result.

Anywhooooo – I never thought paper airplanes would look so sharp and sophisticated as on the above card. CAS is my favorite card type and I really do love neutrals. So, you see, you not only made a card I absolutely think is fabulous but you brought back some fun memories too. Thanks my friend. LOL

  9. Sweet, simple and adorable!

  15. What an adorable card. I always think of little boys when I see paper airplanes, also laws of motion but I digress. Great project Brian, I love it.

  17. Just saw this on Pinterest and had to come over to comment. You definitely have a gift to take something simple and make it work so beautifully! You need a super hero name… I was thinking the Card Caper, but it’s not the right use of the word. ? Will have to think about it more. Thanks for sharing!
