Shooting Star for CTS183

I adore the sketch challenges at CAS(E) this Sketch – each week, the talented team offers great ideas for clean -and-simple cards.  Because of the timing of the challenges, I don’t always get to play along.  This sketch gave me the chance to pull out my Shooting Star set again – I first shared this set earlier this week with a super-clean card with the paper airplane (you can see it here).  Here’s my card for this week’s CAS(E) This Sketch challenge:

Shooting Star, Cottage Greetings, Touches of Texture, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, CTS183

And here’s the banner for Chrissy Larson’s sketch challenge that inspired my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • A Universal Blast.  While the shooting star image is the star of this card (literally and figuratively), the burst of starlights in the background really help the image to pop.  To create this background image, which is also an element in Chrissy’s sketch, I simply stamped the top, left image from Touches of Texture (shown below) several times.  Since the image is more concentrated in the center, I simply turned the image to restamp it so the concentration of dots would stay in the center.  I am happy with the way it turned out.

  • Layering the Shooting Star.  The shooting star image is stamped on Crushed Curry and snipped along the edge of the stamped image.  It’s a relatively simple image to snip.  I then used the coordinating Framelit to crop the outer image from Basic Gray.  Quite simple.  Each of the tiny stars is snipped from Pumpkin Pie card stock.Shooting Star, Cottage Greetings, Touches of Texture, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, CTS183
  • Color Combination.  Yellow pairs perfectly with orange.  While I was creating this card, though, the brightness of Pumpkin Pie seemed to clash with the punch of Crushed Curry.  Once I added some Basic Gray to the mix, everything worked out just fine.  All was right in the universe.  If you like this fun combination, too, please save this:Stampin' Up!
