Totally Nautical for GDP047

The Global Design Project is hosting a Nautical Theme this week.  Yesterday, I shared a sympathy card with a nautical theme (you can see it here).   Today’s project is a “miss you” card that’s perfect for someone who’s traveling or who’s been away for a while (there’s no requirement that the recipient of this card needs to have traveled away via ancient sea vessel).  Here’s my clean-and-simple card:

And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:

GDP047Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • By the Shore Designer Series Paper.  I adore the By the Shore Designer Series Paper.  The colors are a perfect nod do the ocean, and the patterns are versatile to be used for nautical-themed cards or for cards that aren’t associated with the sea at all.  Just take a look at the two pages with bold stripes or the two pieces with an ombre pattern of shades.  Calypso Coral, Mint Macaron and Dapper Denim create a beautiful mood in this paper.

  • The Wheel.  This card started with the ship wheel found in From Land to Sea.  You don’t really need much more of an image to place this card as a “traveling” or “you’re away from me” card, right?  I tried to showcase the wheel several different ways – must have stamped that thing ten times before arriving at this one.  I stamped the wheel in Soft Suede and used a Blender Pen to lightly blend the colors in side the wheel.  Here’s where the problem occurred:  I added a Dapper Denim Enamel Dot to the center of the wheel to see if I liked it.  I didn’t.  When I tried  to peel it away, it started to tear the paper (because I had already pressed it too hard onto the image).  I was not about to stamp that wheel for an eleventh time, so…

  • Nautical Colors.  This card features two patterns from By the Shore Designer Series Paper.  While many of the other pages in this pack of gorgeous papers feature Calypso Coral, I created a nautical feel here with the addition of Real Red.  Together with the Soft Suede wheel, these colors all contribute to the overall feel of this card.  If you like these colors, too, please save this:Stampin' Up! 7. Good Morning Brian:

Another beautiful card creation from the King! Seriously, I really do love this card and can think of so many people that would love to receive it. Since I am the one that moved away I would need to make like 30 of them LOL. Your color combo is very soothing like a the calm of the sea on a perfect day. I really think this one is extra special, just like you are.

  8. Great card, Brian. I love the DSPs and the Dot. So fun!
