Christmas Pines for GDP052

I love the CASE the Designer challenges at the Global Design Project.  This week we get to CASE (copy and share everything) Teneale Williams – what an honor!  Like many of the other design team members, I chose to CASE the layout of Teneale’s beautiful card.  The simple layers are brilliantly combined for a perfectly simple card.  Here’s my project for this week’s challenge:

And here’s the banner for this week’s challenge, including Teneale’s super-sweet baby card, that inspired my card:GDP052

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Christmas Pines.  In yesterday’s post (my Favorite Things from Stampin’ Up!’s 2016 Holiday Catalog), I shared that the Christmas Pines Bundle is my Favorite Sophisticated, Beautiful Bundle in the catalog.  If you’d like to see my entire list, click here.  Not only did I use this gorgeous sentiment from the stamp set, but I added the tiny pine branches from the coordinating Thinlits – I snipped them just a little bit to give me the perfect length I needed to accent my panels.  Those items paired perfectly with this sheet from Presents and Pinecones Designer Series Paper.  Gosh, I love this suite of products!

  • Heat Embossing Trick.  I learned a trick from my friend Shawn deOliveira, a super-talented member of my InKing Royalty team and a design team member at the Global Design Project.  When heat embossing with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder, you can achieve cleaner, fuller lines by stamping the image with White Craft Ink (instead of VersaMark) before adding the embossing powder.  Brilliant!  I shared this tip with my local stamp club as we made this card this past weekend.

  • Color Combination.  I pulled this color combination straight off the pages of the Presents & Pinecones Designer Series Paper – Early Espresso, Emerald Envy and a touch of Mint Macaron.  Love it!  I added Crumb Cake for a warm base to the card.  If you like this color combination, too, feel free to save this:Stampin' Up! 1. Hi Brian, Love this card and to think you can get the idea from a totally different card, a baby card, is fantastic. I must try to look beyond the card itself! I love the tip of white craft ink. I do this with other colors, again . . . why not with white too?
Have a great Labor Day holiday.
    🙂

  3. What a lovely card! You have such a unique way of interpreting the various challenges. You did an awesome job.

  4. Well Brian, your card has pine cones and pine bough so, of course, I love it. I have to agree with Nancy that I would never be able to transfer that gorgeous baby card into a Christmas card! I really, really, really need to try harder to think outside the box! I think the ability to do that is inherited. LOL You have yourself a wonderful Labor Day and thank you so much for always sharing your talents with us.

  5. Adore how the boughs mimic the paper! Sweet for the holidays!
