Star of Light in Beautiful Blues

For the past several years, Stampin’ Up!’s Holiday Catalog has featured some really beautiful holiday papers that showcase different shades of blue.  It’s such a calm, sophisticated color for the holidays.  While I am not disappointed by this year’s papers (they are all wonderful), I admit I miss my blues a little bit.  Not one to sit around and mope, I decided to create a blue project all by myself – with a little help from some amazing Stampin’ Up! products.  Here’s my card:

Merry Medley, Christmas Pines, Starlight Thinlits Dies, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

    • MVP?  Every card has a Most Valuable Player, right?  Who’s the MVP on this card?  The star is grand, and the sentiment is gorgeous – you can’t deny that both of those bundles are must-haves.  Don’t even try.  It’s the Island Indigo background that pulls it all together – thanks to the Merry Medley Background Stamp.  This project started with the big stamp – I inked it with Island Indigo and stamped it on Island Indigo cardstock.  What a perfect backdrop for this simple layout!  I have two of this set – with one, I cropped out the sentiments so I have a wide array of sentiments to play with.  This is such a versatile set!

    • I Have to Admit.  The design of my card took a dramatic shift part way through the creation of this card.  [insert sound of screeching tires followed by peeping of a utility truck backing up].  I’m a planner – and with the stamp sets and Framelits on my desk, I planned every bit of how this card would look.  What I didn’t pay attention to – because the Christmas Pines stamp set is jam-packed with so many amazing images, the pictures on the cover are shown at 80% of their true size.  I planned for a tiny sentiment that would allow me to keep my star straight-up-and-down.  When I pulled the sentiment out, though, it was much bigger than I had anticipated.  I didn’t want to switch sentiments, so I tilted my star on the card (so it wouldn’t hang off the edge of the card front).  I quite like the change I forced upon myself
    • Christmas Blues.  I adore blues for Christmas.  At one point, I thought, “Wow!  Blues are so unconventional!”  It’s just not the case any more.  Seems that blues are just as traditional as green and red.  If you like this combination of colors, too, please save this:Stampin' Up!
