Wrapped in Warmth for MM#214 and GDP#054

This week’s Merry Monday challenge gives us a fun challenge – to create a Christmas card with something warm.  The Holiday season is filled with great images of warmth – fireplaces, hot cups of cocoa, mittens and coats.  This challenge gave me a great opportunity to showcase three products from Stampin’ Up!’s 2016 Holiday Catalog that are named after warm things:  Wrapped in Warmth stamp set, Warmth & Cheer Designer Series Paper Stack and the Cable Knit Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.  Here’s my card:

And here are the banners for the two challenges that inspired my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

    • Warmth & Cheer Suite.  Three of the products used on this card are from the Warmth & Cheer Suite of products in Stampin’ Up!’s 2016 Holiday Catalog – and all are found on page 13.  These products have a very “log cabin” feel to them – warm plaids, rich colors and a Fall/Winter feel.  The stamp set has a textured appeal, and the papers can easily crossover between Thanksgiving and Christmas.  You can click on the image below to see all of the products in this suite in my online store:Warmth & Cheer
    • Cable Knit.  The crisp, white background was created with Thick Whisper White cardstock and the new Cable Knit Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.  This new items is a must-have.  I simply misted the paper with a light coat of water before running it through the Big Shot with the embossing folder.  The water helps to make the paper more flexible so that it doesn’t crack inside the Big Shot – you’ll still experience cracking with thin papers like Whisper White or Very Vanilla (Thick Whisper White is no problem).  Here’s a quick-and-helpful video from Stampin’ Up! about this new dynamic embossing folder:

  • Color Combination.  If I told you that Delightful Dijon, Basic Black and Whisper White would make a warm and cozy Christmas card, you likely wouldn’t have believed me.  I love the colors in this card, though.  The deep richness of Delightful Dijon plays well with black and white.  If you also like this combination, feel free to save this:Stampin' Up! 1. I’m truly mad about that plaid, especially for fall and winter holidays. Love how you know just how much pattern to use to really make your sentiment pop!

  2. You must have been really inspired by this week’s GDP sketch! I love the way both your GDP cards turned out. This one in particular uses my favorite pattern from Warmth and Cheer, and you do such a great job of showing it off! As always your layers and colors are gorgeous! I’ve definitely fallen in love with Delightful Dijon this season, in part because of all these great patterns from Stampin’ Up! and in part from how awesome you make them look on your cards. Thanks for all the inspiration!

  3. Good Morning Brian:

Today’s card is amazing! The little bit of black framing that you use on your layers really makes them pop and showcases the plaid of the patterned paper as well as the dimension of the embossing folder. It makes me think of the plaid pleated skirts we all wore to school in the early sixties. Yes, I know, you are way too young to remember that. Now those skirts are pretty limited to private schools. Anyway, my point is that this card is warm and inviting and brings back a flood of memories. Just gorgeous as always Mr.King.

  4. Oh wow, that cable knit really pops!

  5. Fabulous card Brian, I love that sentiment. Great colours and papers as well. Thank you for playing along with Merry Monday.
