Let it Snow for PPA320

Dawn Tidd has many talents – card designing is the most conspicuous if you follow her online or see her projects on the Pals Paper Arts site.  A less conspicuous talent?  Dawn is a master at impersonating screech owls.  A few years ago, Dawn shared her screech owl vocal talents with us in the lobby of a nice hotel at our World Card Making Day event.  Wow – just wow.  Back to her card making talents – Dawn is the Featured Designer for this week’s Pals Paper Arts sketch challenge, and her sketch is super-clean and super-fun.  Here’s my card for Dawn’s challenge:

PPA320Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Fancy Frost Specialty Designer Series Paper.  The star of this card is the beautifully textured Fancy Frost Specialty Designer Series Paper.  We’ve grown accustomed to Specialty Papers with glossy heat-embossed texture.  This paper is different, though.  This paper is dry embossed for us (similar to the effect of running paper through a Big Shot with a Textured Impressions Embossing Folder).  There’s no way for pictures of this paper to show how gorgeous it is in real life.  Below is a graphic that shows this paper – I’ve created a similar graphic with all the colors from the Holiday Catalog papers – if you want to see that, click here or on the picture below:Fancy Frost Specialty Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up!
  • It’s There – I Promise!  At first glance, you might not see that I’ve incorporated all elements of Dawn’s sketch.  Sure, the banner across the front is there, but you might think, “Aha!  You’ve not included the thin band down the right side.”  Oh, it’s there!  I stamped the tiny snowflakes from my Perpetual Birthday Calendar stamp set in Soft Sky to incorporate this band.  They are soft, but they are there.  Here’s a better look – this picture also shows the texture of the gorgeous paper.  I took a risk and was surprised I was able to stamp right on the textured paper – I even stamped the snowflake on the textured paper:Flurry of Wishes, Snow Place, Perpetual Birthday Calendar, Stampin' Up!, Brian King
  • Color Combination.  If you are going for a soft, sweet, snowy look, you can’t go wrong with Soft Sky, Basic Gray and Whisper White.  What a gorgeous combination that stands apart from all the red and green cards that will be headed out in December.  The soft colors look great with this textured paper.  If you like this combination of colors, too, feel free to save this:Stampin' Up! Atlanta WCMDThere’s still room – but not much room.  When Pam and I set out to organize this year’s World Card Making Day event (we are holding it a month later to coincide with Stampin’ Up!’s OnStage Local event in Atlanta), we set our expectations high.  We are thrilled with the registrations so far but still have some seats left.  If you are a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator and plan to be in Atlanta for the OnStage Local event, we’d love for you to come one day early to have fun with us.  If you’d like more information about our event, please CLICK HERE.

  1. Super sweet snow scene! Lovin’ the texture and touch of bling.

  2. Crisp and sharp, very nice!

  3. Oh Mr. King – you are so clever as well as artistic. Love the way you offset the snowflake on the banner just enough so that it goes over the edge. Absolute perfection!

  4. Lovely card Brian. Love the colors and the soft, sweet, and simple interpretation. A triple “S” designation.

  5. So pretty! Love the subtle band of snow!

  6. “Snow” cute, Brian! I love that paper with your single snowflake! The sentiment on the banner is perfect. You gave me a much needed chuckle too! 🙂

  7. Chris R. from Iowa

Stunning! I am going to have to try this. Who knew you could stamp on the textured paper? So glad you did, the whole card is so pretty!

  8. The screech owl story is hilarious! I love reading your blog as much as seeing your gorgeous creations.
