B.Y.O.P. for GDP

This week’s Global Design Project color challenge gave me the opportunity to make a Graduation Card I’ve needed to make – Night of Navy, Calypso Coral and Sahara Sand were the perfect foundation for this fun card.  AND the colors worked perfectly for a male or female.  Here’s my card:BYOP, Be the Star, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, GDP033And here’s the banner for this week’s Global Design Project challenge that inspired my card:

GDP033Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • B.Y.O.P. and Be the Star.  You’d almost think these two sets were made for each other – the stars fit so perfectly along the top and bottom of the sentiment.  B.Y.O.P. is carrying over into Stampin’ Up!’s 2016-2017 Annual Catalog, while Be the Star is being retired.  I love the sentiments in the B.Y.O.P. set and haven’t used it enough – my mind tells me it’s just for gift cards, but that’s simply not the case.  Just look at how flexible these great sayings are – and the card I shared with you today doesn’t have a gift card enclosure at all:

  • Graduated Stars for the Graduate.  My original design had a Whisper White panel between the base of the card and the top panel.  Before gluing it all down, I decided to add stars to that background panel.  It makes a great impact, but it was easy to accomplish.  To create a fun effect with the stars that border my central panel, I inked the stars with Calypso Coral and stamped with full coverage on the right side.  As I made my way left, I stamped off once, then twice, then three times to make the stars lighter and lighter.  Easy and fun!   BYOP, Be the Star, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, GDP033
  • Clear Stampin’ Emboss Powder to the Rescue.  I stamped the GRAD sentiment with Night of Navy and colored it in with a Calypso Coral Stampin’ Write Marker.  Because both a water-based, they will bleed when the two inks meet each other.  I was in luck because my Night of Navy ink pad was quite juicy.  As soon as I stamped the sentiment, I covered it with Clear Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heat embossed it.  That allowed me to paint the Calypso Coral into the sentiment with no problems.

Stamp Sets:  B.Y.O.P., Be the Star  Papers:  Sahara Sand, Night of Navy, Calypso Coral  Inks:  Night of Navy, Calypso Coral  Accessories:  Clear Emboss Powder, Heat Tool, 2-1/2″ Circle punch, Circles Collection Framelits,  Stampin’ Dimensionals

I hope you’ll pop over to the Global Design Project to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.
