Lovely as a Tree at Thanksgiving

No stamp set has as much staying power as Lovely as a Tree. For eleven years, we’ve seen amazing pieces of art that showcase the forest of trees, the solid oak tree and the tall, proud fir. I can’t think of any that showcased the pair of oak leaves from that set (at least I haven’t identified any projects as the oak leaves from that stamp set). To pay tribute to this overlooked stamp and to use my Core’dinations card stock, I snipped a lawnfull of leaves, created a beautiful tree trunk and made this card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

Core’dinations Card Stock

With the Holiday Catalog this year, Stampin’ Up! introduced Core’dinations Card stock, a crafty, multi-layered card stock with a lighter color of card stock underneath the exterior.  Here’s how I created the tree trunk:

  • I ran the Core’dinations card stock through the Big Shot with the Woodgrain textured embossing folder and started to lightly run the sanding block over the texturized surface:stampwithbrian.com.jpg
  • Here’s a fuzzy view of the finished product.  Because the card stock is Early Espresso, it doesn’t photograph well – it comes across as too dark – so I’ve had to alter the quality of the photo.  Me sorry.  stampwithbrian.com.jpg

My Bucket of Lost Dreams

On a shelf in my craft room, I keep a little plastic bin that I affectionately refer to as my Bucket of Lost Dreams.  If I change course on a card halfway through a card, I drop the snips into this bin.  When I am lost for inspiration or lacking time, I pull this bin down from the shelf and flip through it.  stampwithbrian.com Bin of Lost Dreams.jpg

A couple of weeks ago, I participated in a Pals Paper Arts color challenge.  I snipped a mess of leaves but decided the card didn’t need them.  Good news for today’s project!

  1. So Handsome! Love this tree! I had to get out the catalog to see this stamp set, I did not realize it provided this clump of oak leaves! Sadly I don’t have this staple stamp set. Beautiful card and thanks for bringing out the texture today! <3

  2. Cool card. I need a bucket of lost dreams too!!!

  3. This is a winner…love what you did with the oak leaves . I don`t remember seeing anyone use them this way. I think you did a great job getting the Early Expresso color photographed and don`t you just love the Woodgrain folder . I saw it used on Whisper White for a sympathy card for a male and it was elegant and quite tasteful . Love this stamp set I just haven`t bought it but it`s on the list . I think we all have those “buckets” … my problem is I sort of lean toward “Waste Not Want Not” so cosequently I have more than one . I like the eye grabber of silver …you are soooo clever!

  4. Well…I relooked if there is such a word and I don`t think that`s silver so I take back the clever comment .Wouldn`t the brushed gold that you used recently be pretty for a couple of those oak leaf beauties …I`ll replace clever with “You are so inspiring.”…

  5. Oh WOW!! Brian, I also have a plastic container where I put all the punch out or die cut stuff I make and then change my mind about. It always comes in handy and I often reach for it if I’m at a loss or to save time. This tree is fabulous, your fussy cutting skills are amazing.

  6. Love the leaves cut as they are………and bucket of lost dreams! You sure made this dream come alive! Very stunning card, love it!

  7. A beautiful fall card.

  8. Brian, Lovely as a Tree is one of my most favorite sets! This card is so “regal” looking. very nice! I haven’t bought that Core’dinations card stock yet, but I am thinking maybe I should. It makes great tree trunks! šŸ™‚ Thank you for always starting my day off with such lovely work and humor!

  9. Bucket of Lost Dreams! Another reason why I love your blog posts, Brian. I call my drawer “punchies” – boring, but had been working until I read your name this morning. šŸ™‚
I may have to change mine to “Draw of Lost Dreams”!
    BTW, love your card!

  10. I just had to talk about this,,, for those of you that ordered Brian`s Triple Time Card set you know of what I speak !!! Pure art in the packaging …I had commented on how neatly everything looked when I received my set BUT…I was taking it apart this afternoon to make a card and I was blown away by the way each individual set was put together …the Very Vanilla cardstock was already assembled together for me to stamp…Outstanding !!!!! I just had to shout about it ! Now all I need is for you to come and stamp it for me Brian! Love It..Hug Hug …

    • Sonny, That’s so nice of you to comment on that. I appreciated your order and wanted to make sure it was packaged nicely for a safe arrival. So glad you liked it and that things arrived in good shape. Thanks!

  11. I think I feel very honored and amazed to know that we were both looking at the same stamp to do something with. However, the similarity stops there–you’ve done something I’d have not thought to do–all that punching and snipping. This is a GREAT card. Thanks so much for the inspiration!
