From the Bottom of my Heart

On an average day, I spend quite a bit of time thinking about what project I would create and share with my beloved blog readers.  I might run through my stamp sets in my mind or pick some colors or decide on a technique I want to try.  Today, I didn’t think about my nightly card project at all.  So, when I stepped into my craft room to get started, I decided to test fate by running my pointer finger back and forth over the spines of my clear mount sets.  Where she stops, nobody knows!  My only thought going into this was that I needed to cool it on the “thank you” cards – what with all the outpooring of thanks as of late.  Afterall, this isn’t www.givethankswithbrian.com.

My finger stopped at From the Heart, a gorgeous stamp set I haven’t used very often.  Over the summer, I saw a card by Justin Krieger in which he set the “Thank you from the bottom of my heart” sentiment inside the Floral Frames framelits.  It was like the framelits were made for this stamp.  Here’s my card:20121109-210843.jpg

I didn’t look up Justin’s card again until after I completed my project, but his card obviously left an impression on me because I also used Primrose Petals and added a little punched heart to my sentiment.

Tips, Tricks are Reminders:

  • Use your scraps.  Remember when I told you that you’d be seeing the scraps from my Festival of Prints DSP Stack?  Well, here are some more!  One side of this paper screams Christmas.  This houndstooth side screams gorgeous.
  • Layer the layers.  OK, that sounds like a typo, but it’s not.  I cropped the floral image with my framelits on Very Vanilla.  To add a little depth to the sentiment, I cropped the same shape in Early Espresso paper and layered the two on top of each other, setting them off from one another.  It almost looks like there’s an Early Espresso circle behind the flower, but there’s really just another flower.
  • Mix it up.  Keep your crafting interesting by switching up the kinds of cards you create.  If you find yourself making Thank You cards all the time, switch it up a bit!  Make some colorful Happy Birthday cards or gorgeous Thinking of You cards.  Oh, and don’t learn from me about this.  🙂

Anyway ,thank you Justin …. I will be back later because sitting in my craft room is THE NEW TRIMMER !!!!!!! It kinda makes me think of BUZZ LIGHTYEAR!!!

  2. OMG! I must have this! Primrose Petals with Black & White Houndstooth! Divine!

  3. Very attractive layout and color combo!

  4. WOWSERS…..this is so striking and SIMPLE!

  5. okay…Patti …you say black and white HT…but Brian referred to Early Expresso which made me double check and it doesn`t list black on colors ..like you I thought black and white which is my fave…but I think it`s brown …If I choose to do a Xmas card using this combo I will go with black cuz I`m old fashioned that way….I really stopped back to talk about Buzz(my new trimmer) but I will do that later …

    • Yup! Sonny, the blog monitor for this weekend is correct. The colors are Very Vanilla and Early Espresso. I have to blame it on the lighting in my new Stampin’ Studio. Not as bright as before – plus EE always shows up as black in my pictures. I appreciate that y’all are even reading my posts, so I definitely love that you comment.

      • I don’t have that houndstooth DSP and assumed it was B&W! That’s ok! Houndstooth looks fab in Very Vanilla & Early Espresso! I hope you all have a awesome weekend! Looks like the East Coast is getting warmer & the sun will come out!

      • I not only read your blog posts thoroughly….I went back and RE-read the post (remembering it SAID EE, but my eyes observed B&W as well)…and after reading your reiteration here, Brian, my eyes observed EE and VV. Such powers you have! 🙂 Seriously, the card is great and I LOVE the color combo!

  7. Very nicely done Brian! I’m so flattered that my card left such an impressions with you! Thank you for mentioning me. I love the Primrose and Espresso together. Oh and sonny, before there was Bieber there was Krieger… I’m older! LOL! Love your work Brian! Have a great day! 🙂

    • Justin – I saw your card when you posted it in July. It has stuck with me all this time, but I haven’t reached for that sentiment. Love it in the Floral Frames. Your work is great!

  8. LOVE this card! Actually I love all your cards. The little pink heart was the perfect touch. Yes, I definitely thought it was a circle behind the flower. Glad you pointed that out. I always learn from you. Thank you so much for this blog and sharing your talent.

  9. One word: classy!

  10. Love this card Brian (and Justin). It’s a great color combo and I would not have thought of it. I also like the Houndstooth pattern; reminds me of the 60’s when we had clothes in all sorts of colors, in the Houndstooth patterns. (Me thinks I am giving away my age but hey…that’s ok). Anyway, thanks for sharing. Brian, as you know, your blog is one of my favorite morning treasures! It’s nice to learn little tips and tricks……and to see gorgeous creations too!

  11. Brian,
I loved that you used the framelits around the sentiment! You’re thinking outside the framelit on this one!!
