Green and Red Cards: Two Ways

For today’s project, I want to share two 3″x3″ cards I made in green and red.  Why have I paired these together?  Just because they are both green and red.  It’s that simple.  While one is specifically a holiday card, the other is not.  Just so happens that both are green and red.  Did I mention that both are green and red?  stampwithbrian.com - green and red 3x3s.jpg

In the process of designing standard 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ cards, we often forget that 3″ x 3″ cards are both adorable (they are totally adorable) and easy to design.  There’s not a lot of space to balance out and fill.

Here’s how I made each of these cards:

Thank You.  These cherries are a stamp in Button Buddies.  With my Stampin’ Write Markers, I brushed Cherry Cobbler (makes sense, right?) onto the cherry fruit and Garden Green (also makes sense) onto the stems and leaves.  Immediately after stamping the cherries, I added cherry-scented embossing powder – basically to make it smell pretty.  I stamped the sentiment with Itty Bitty Banners and cropped it out with my Bitty Banners framelits.  I offset the sentiment and let it hang over the edge of the popped-up base.

Stamp sets:  Button Buddies, Itty Bitty Banners  Papers:  Cherry Cobbler, Garden Green, Whisper White  Inks:  Cherry Cobbler  Accessories:  Bitty Banners Framelits, Cherry Scented Emboss Powder, Stampin’ Write Markers (Garden Green and Cherry Cobbler)

Ornament.  To the face of a Gumball Green 3″ x 3″ card, I added a small strip of Be of Good Cheer DSP.  I stamped the Delightful Decorations ornament in Cherry Cobbler and punched it out with the Ornament punch.  I added a basic jewel rhinestone to the center and popped the ornament up with a dimensional.  Easy for a quick note or a package tag.

Stamp set: Delightful Decorations  Papers:  Gumball Green, Be of Good Cheer DSP, Very Vanilla  Inks:  Cherry Cobbler  Accessories:  Basic Jewel Rhinestones, Stampin’ Dimensionals, Ornament punch

Thanks for stopping by my blog!

  1. Mmmmm…scented as well – Nice!! You have answered a question of mine since SU discontinued the craft inks – how to use embossing powders, without having to use Versamark ink?? Sounds like it adheres to the classic inks (if applied immediately) – yes?

    • Barb – in this instance, the embossing powder was adhered to an image that was inked with a Stampin’ Write Marker. The classic inks seem to work well for me even though Versamark is the best. With ink, you have to get that powder on there ASAP.

  2. I sure do forget about the 3 x 3 size cards!
Thanks for reminding me, Brian. I love the ornament stamps & punch. They are back in MN – did you hear that? They’re calling me and asking why they didn’t make it into the suitcase! Good thing we’re heading back on Tuesday … have a good day! Thanks, again!

  3. I really like 3×3 cards…I use them a lot . I also like to make 4×4 cards using my 4 inch scalloped die. I really like cherries …reminds me of Mary Englebriet….(sp) I like both of these …Wouldn`t it be fun to give someone a box of 3×3 cards as a gift? Make them all different ! I think I`m going to have to get the Button Buddies set …I say that all the time because I love buttons …. These cards are CUTIES !!!! And how clever of you to color the cherries red…. how creative !!!! I think I will try your embossing method for a change . By the way Brian …. have you ever heard of embossing powder getting old ? I see that every so often and someone said be sure and always shake it up before you use it ? Just curious ????

    • Yes. Someone mentioned that to me the other day. It apparently doesn’t have a very long shelf life once opened. 🙁
Just use it all up and buy more. 🙂

  4. Okay…so if it`s been opened that would have some bearing on it . That`s good because I have a couple so far unopened … maybe the air takes out the puffiness …kinda like marshmallows .

  5. Great cards Brian!

  6. Ok, I really miss you all in my In Box! I was here at 6:03 and typed a note and erased it! Well, back spaced it! 🙂 Did you miss me? Now here’s my kind remark, and all I can muster up! ” I love 3×3 Note Cards!”

  7. Oh, this are so pretty!! great as gifts for teachers and neighbors. Everybody needs a “Thank You” card so, this are perfect. Thanks for sharing them. I’m late again, I feel a bit under the weather, ughhh!! I hope I don’t get sick. Can I have some healing ~~~~~ sent my way??

  8. Brian, your little cards are gorgeous! I absolutely love that dsp, too! Beautiful layouts…hugs!

  9. Fun cards and colors. In New Mexico when you’re ordering food in a Mexican restaurant, you’re always asked, “Red or green?” They mean chile, and both are wonderful!

  10. Thank you all for your well wishes. I took my temp this morning, I do have a bit of a fever, ughhh!! I hope this is one of those 24 hour “bugs” that will leave me by tomorrow. Not fun feeling like this, I think I will find some refuge in staying in my warm pj’s, nice thick robe and drinking lots of hot tea. Gosh, I’m not even hungry. I have to be careful so I wont pass this on to my poor mom.
Thanks again, stamping friends, you made me feel a lot better.

  11. Hey Maria…Sorry you feel bad …sending you a bundle of healing hugs ! Take care Swap Buddy …and yes Patti..I missed seeing you earlier …wondered where you were. …Don`t you just love how we take over Brian`s blog ? That`s girls ,Brian …we just seem to do that …

    • Hey Sonny, thank you for your kind words. I’m just here in my bedroom, with my lap top by my side, I took a short nap and I just feel real yucky. Oh well, that’s life. And you are right, we have taken over Brian’s blog, he is just such a sweet guy to put up with all of us. Love him to pieces.

  12. So glad my project was UNDERWHELMING today so that we could all take care of Maria…:)

  13. Hey Brian, do you sorta feel like Charlie Brown in a room full of Lucys ?

  14. Brian—you forgot to tell us what colors you used on these two cards….
😀 GREAT CARDS…and hope Maria is all better!
