Feeling Sentimental & a New Video

I am going to blow your mind today.  That’s a promise.

Last week, I shared some cards from Feeling Sentimental, a really cool stamp set available exclusively during Sale-a-Bration. In case you missed it, you can see my post here.  Here’s another card using a different image from this stamp set:www.stampwithbrian.com - Feeling Sentimental.jpg

Feeling Sentimental. It’s all about nostalgia – remembering a thing or a place in time that really touches our hearts. Sometimes, that sentimental feeling is prompted by an old tshirt – you know, the one from 15 years ago that you still wear around the house? It has a couple of holes in it, but it’s sooooo soft and comfortable. Sometimes, this longing for a different time is prompted by a photograph that reminds you of simpler times when things were so much easier.

Now, I’m going to share something that makes me very sentimental – for both reasons I just mentioned. Here’s a photograph of me from 1984 (I was 12) making sausage at my great uncle’s – I’m stuffing the pig intestine casing with the sausage mixture (eeewww!), and I’m wearing my favorite shirt at that time. Oh, I loved that shirt. 20130106-211929.jpg

Did you make the connection? Did you miss it while you were focusing on the pig intestines? Let me give you a closer look:20130106-211938.jpg

Getting dizzy?  Isn’t that crazy!?! I LOVED THAT SHIRT! How cool is that?!

Did you miss it?I used my Stampin’ Distress Tool (found on page 14 of the Spring Catalog) to rough up the edges of my 3″ circle – I also crumpled it up, covered it with Stampin’ Mist and let it dry.

  1. That is AMAZING! My mind is indeed blown. How cool. LOVE the card – am going to have to get that set now….. 🙂

  2. What a terrific post today! Love the walk down memory lane! Your dsp… is very tempting. Nicely done!

  3. Oh my goodness Brian, you were so cute and the look on your face shows how much you are “enjoying” making that sausage, LOL. It’s remarkable that you had a t-shirt with the image of that bike, no wonder this stamp took you back to your sausage making days. Thank you for sharing this picture of a very young and super handsome Brian King at 12 years of age. Now, your card for today is beautiful too, this set is totally vintage, it will make wonderful birthday cards for a more…..how should I say it?…..mature group of people? Yea, that’s it, mature. The video is again great!! Thanks for tempting me to maybe get some DSP, although I probably would never be able to make up my mind as to which side to put under.

  4. Hi Brian! I received my DSP Sampler yeterday in the mail and I just have to tell you……I LOVE IT! How amazing it’s going to be to not have to dig out my catalogs to find the coordinating cardstocks that go with each DSP. Just had to tell you……WAY TO GO FRIEND on designing and offering these DSP Samplers to all (including all us demonstrators!).

  5. Now that’s just freaky.

  6. How cool is this? … what an amazing coincidence, Brian! And how many other SU! Demos can promote this stamp set with such a personal touch? Great job on the distressing, too!
Another super video … by the way! Your DSP swatch books couldn’t be a handier tool.
    Have a great Wednesday!

  7. What about that image showing up again….when you live to be over a few decades old these things happen…like the hexagons … “They`re back” Who remembers that statement from a popular movie several years ago ? It is “freaky” as Traci said though….because it`s the same image, not similar. Now, everytime you eat link sausage you`ll wonder what does it mean? Why does that strange image keep flashing back to me????
And again I will say love love my Swatch Books….Your video brought out something I didn`t realize. The label is the background color !!! You did so good …I have already put my SB to work . …It`s Handy Dandy!!!

  8. Wow…….!!! Can’t believe the image on the tee. You are probably the only SU demo who can pull that one off! AND…the swatchbooks are wonderful, can’t wait for mine to arrive. Now you are a genius, a sentimential genius!

  9. Awwwww Brian. Love that picture of you. And to think SU has that exact stamp now! Unbelievable. Surely your SU career was meant to be! And surely that stamp was meant for you. Beautiful job on the card you made. Just love reading your blog every morning and having coffee with you!

  10. What a total co-incident! Perfect pic of a very sweet and cute you! And perfect match with the card…weird, huh? Love your card and your video {I was so surprised to see the distressing…you go, boy!!}. I can’t wait to get my swatches in the mail! They are so detailed…I love someone that pays attention to detail {and thoroughness…}. You covered all bases for sure!
Have a wonderful day and looking forward to your next blog each day!! ;D
    Hugs,
    Sharon

    all 4 , ok
    hugs f.

  12. Boy Brian – those dsp swatches look fantastic. You certainly put a lot of time and thought into the presentation. Must have taken forever to make them. You have hidden talents my boy and marketing is just one of them. Mom must be very proud. AND the coincidence with the bike shirt and stamp? That IS just plain freaky and really funny.

  13. Oh stop! I can’t believe the likeness to the tshirt. Wonderful, fun post and amazing card.

  14. I wondered what to do with this stamp. This is the perfect layout! I love the shirt!

  15. I’m a newbie follower and I totally love your style of posting! I love the stamp/t-shirt comparison! It made me smile! You’re too funny! I wasn’t to thrilled with this stamp set and yet I love vintage stuff. There has only been a few cards, including yours, that has changed my mind about this set! Keep up the good work! BTW congrats on becoming one of The Paper Players DT members. I hope I have the correct one! I follow several! 🙂

  16. This inspires me to look back at old photos and see if Stampin’ Up made any stamps that would match my clothes of the time! I don’t think they would have any Beauty and The Beast any time soon though…I had a sweatsuit outfit that I just loved as a kid. ha!

  17. I love your card and especially your T-Shirt. You know – you could probably enlarge that bike image in MDS and print it on iron on transfer paper to replicate your old favorite T-shirt.

  18. Amazing! Mind Blown! Still on the pig intestines, but love the card!!

  19. Brian,
I anxiously waited for the mail carrier, like waiting for Santa at Christmas! Today they arrived! The DSP swatches are wonderful! Whether you are buying, or selling to customers, or creating your own cards, or looking for a certain color, this is the way to go. They are so handy for many uses. So much easier than going to the catalog, plus I now have a sample of the real paper in my hand, better than a picture in the catalog. How nice it would be to have these for all DSP’s! You developed a great product, and constructed them with care – perfect! If anyone is on the fence, I have to highly recommend these!

  20. wow..how cool is that!

  21. I fell in love with this set and it was the first SAB item that I got….have I used it yet, no….I know, shame on me, but will be stampin this afternoon and will certainly see how I can use these with Valentine cards – and other types! Those pictures of you in your fabulous t-shirt are wonderful and whodathunk that years later you would be playing with a rubber stamp with the near exact image….thank you for sharing, Brian! Also, great video – hope it helps your sales!

  22. Brian, what an awesome card. I just got this set too, although you were the one who made me order it (you didn’t know that…but it’s true). And, I really think you should send that photo to Shelli so she can see that YOU were the first inventor (sort of) that stamp set. What a cool shirt on a very cute little boy. You do look a bit devious playing with those pig guts.

  23. WOW, how AWESOME!! I must have this set! I have loved what you have done with it!! My husband would love the sausage! He too made this when he was little! I just ordered my swatch book too! Couldn’t resist with that Wonderful video! 🙂

  24. El, a Stampin' Pretty Pal

Brian, I was a very lucky recipient of your DSP Swatch Book set from Mary Fish, our Fearless Leader, and I absolutely love the booklets. I’m looking forward to your next set, probably will be a few sets from the next annual Stampin’ Up! catalog, I imagine . . . hope. Such a fabulous idea!!!

  25. This is fabulous – the shirt, the card………and probably the sausage was too!
