A One Act Play, Starring YOU!

What’s black, white, orange and waddles?

A penquin carrying a pumpkin.

Who doesn’t love a classic joke?  Isn’t that the cutest?  I just love the image of a penquin carrying an oversized pumpkin.  It makes me smile.  Want another joke?

Knock, knock.

Who’s there?

It’s your mail carrier, and I am delivering your monthly Paper Pumpkin project.

Ha! Ha! Ha!  *Picking myself up off the floor*  OK, so that wasn’t really a joke, but it sure sounded like it was headed in that direction, so I got a little ahead of myself.  I kinda’ want to see how that “joke” plays out, so let’s keep going with it.

YOU:  Thank you, Shannon, my favorite mail carrier!  You know I get so excited each month when this little, cardboard box arrives.  It means I have a brand new project to scope out.  I’m going to bust right into this box to see what kind of goodies Stampin’ Up! has sent my way.  Have a great day, Shannon!  Did I mention you are my favorite mail carrier?  Well, you are.

[sets the box on the dining room table – right on top of some Stampin’ Up! grid paper – and runs off to grab scissors] stampwithbrian.com

YOU:  Why don’t I just keep my scissors by the door so that I can break into this package the minute it arrives?  I need to get over my obsessive compulsive need to keep my house tidy.  From now on, scissors will hang on a rope at the front door.  Decision made!

[opens the box and places all the items in a neat display as if a picture were going to be taken for your Stampin’ Up! demonstrator blog]stampwithbrian.com

YOU:  Oh, yeah!  It’s my Try Me Kit!  Let’s count:  Four envelopes.  Four card bases.  Four pieces of groovy polka dotted paper.  Some cool stickers and buttons.  Two stamps that I can use in so many other projects.  A Basic Gray Stampin’ Spot.  I’m already thinking about all the wonderful things I can do with these items.  I love that the gray card base is white on the other side – no need to line the inside of the card with white paper.  Yipee!

YOU:  Oh, look!  Instructions are included – and a picture of the suggested finished project.  I like that they always provide clear instructions, but I know that my creativity will force me to change it up a bit.  I never make my projects just like the example.  This is a really great box of goodies.  Oh, I can’t wait to get started!

[gives (INSERT NAME OF FAMILY PET) some food and sits down to create]

[30 minutes pass by]

YOU:  I really like how these cards turned out!  Go me!  I’m going to snap some pictures of these and share them on Pinterest – my friends always repin my projects.  I need to invite them to join My Paper Pumpkin, too!  Brian is such an incredible demonstrator and always posts such inspiring projects on his blog, so I’ll make sure to tell them to sign up under him for their kits, too.  I should also show them his blooper video.  His mom sure is wonderful!  stampwithbrian.com

YOU:  Hello?  I’m sorry, you have the wrong number.  [hangs up phone]  Who is Larry, and why is everyone calling my number looking for him?  Geez!

[snaps another photo]20130222-202607.jpg

[Packs away all the goodies and patiently waits for 30 days until Shannon delivers the next exciting kit]

YOU:  Thank you, Paper Pumpkin!  [holds hand in the air, speaks slowly but loudly]…Thhhhaaaannnnkkk yooooouuuuu!

[Takes a bow.  Curtains close]

Wow!  I really like how that turned out!  You really have a flair for the dramatic.

In March, Stampin’ Up!’s Paper Pumpkin kits start mailing out, and I want you to be on the list.  There’s no commitment – try it for a month or two.  If you aren’t happy, then drop out of the program.  I like both of the project kits I’ve seen (the Try Me kit and the first kit), and I’m sure they’ll ramp it up even for the ones after that.  Won’t you please sign up at www.mypaperpumpkin.com to give it a try (you can select me as your demonstrator – Brian King, zip 30341).  It’s best if you sign up using Google Chrome or Firefox.  Please email me if you encounter any problems or have any questions.

  1. Brian, I love you and I love all your fabulous creations, I also love your incredible enthusiasm for everything that is Stampin up! Sadly this is a very depressing stampwithbrian.com post. I’m from Australia and these kits aren’t available to us (sigh). I’d kill just for that splodgy little textural stamp, (sigh again). Awesome stuff Brian, I love what you did with this kit even though I can only dream about such awesome things being released here.
To all you lovely people who do access to this kit, go order it immediately, (through Brian of course). Hopefully Stampin’ Up! will then see Paper Pumpkin needs to be unleashed on the rest of the world.

    • Susan, I just wanted to let you know that splodgy little textural stamp really mimics the water mark in French Foliage page 86 of the IDB&C We do have the same cattys don’t we? It must be so frustrating seeing posts of product that do not reach your market for a long while. Come on over to USA we would love to have you!! (thanks Brian for your time & space on your blog :))

  2. You’re a riot! I hope you won’t consider for another moment to hand the scissors by the door! I agree with you, everything in it’s place after you’ve used it!

  3. I absolutely love your creations (not to mention your dramatics as well)!! Now to go pour my coffee!! I know, I couldn’t wait to see your post while the coffee was making! 🙂

  4. Well, you will be up for a Tony Award for sure ! Thank you for showing this . I have questions ???
Does the block come in the first kit ? Could this item be part of My Stampin` Club $25 purchase for the month? I presume the kit shown this morning is the first one and that`s what I will get for my March kit…. I could use that cute sentiment and I like the smudgy spots also ….Believe it or not Patti …that was one reason I keep thinking I am going to order French Foliage !! Well, it might be fun to get a package that somebody else picked out for you !! Hey, Brian you should have thought of this first !! I would love to see what your monthly choices would be !!!! Btw …thoroughly enjoyed the play !!

    • Hey Sonny! I have answers! The Try Me Kit is always the first kit someone will receive when they sign up. After that, they will receive the kit for that month. This subscription service is separate from party orders. 🙁 No credit toward a party. Don’t tell anyone else (OK, so I realize this is on my blog), but Stampin’ Up! is announcing a training subscription on Tuesday that (from what I understand) will count toward a party. More details to come. Oh! And the block comes with the Try Me Kit – all subsequent stamps will fit on the block.

  5. And look who’s here to join in the fun! It’s MOM in her string of pearls!!!

I hear theme music from Leave It To Beaver in the background of this post!

Brian, you have PEGGED the whole reception of each monthly surprise package!!! Love it, and love you! Have a FAB weekend!!!

  6. Terrific presentation of a product! And the oscar goes to …… Brian!

  7. What a performance………………take a bow………………..encore,encore! Enjoyed it very much. Well, today is the day………………you have a very long day ahead of you my friend. Have fun and can’t wait for the the details and pics too please.

  8. Hi Brian. I know you are slaving away at the Vendor fair and getting to meet tons of terrific people. Enjoy the experience, I know that it will make you very enthusiastic about doing more of those type of events. Meanwhile, this post doesn’t indicate a change from SU Demonstrator to play write and Broadway does it?

I too have a question. I signed up for the Paper Pumpkin already. Does that mean I do NOT get the “try me” box?

  9. I just love morning theatre!
And you will get 3 Oscars -Best Screenplay, Best Performance in a Comedy and Best Catering Service,(in the “industry” it is called craft service, ironically enough). That one is for feeding Bandit regularly.
Let’s all hang scissors by the door!

  10. You crack me up! And you’ve really inspired me to get creative with the Paper Pumpkin set, thanks!

  11. Oscar worthy performance if I ever saw one….love it! And the Oscar goes to……..Brian King! And the crowd goes wild with excitement and happiness – at a fevered pitch!!!!!!!!! Thanks, Brian….I’ve seen the packages but nothing made up….hmmmmm, thinking more about maybe ordering…. Have a super weekend!

  12. Wonderful performance…{clapping here}! I’m looking forward now to my theatre kick with my coffee each morning, Brian!! ;D I can hardly wait until March now…Hugs!

  13. Okay Sweetie Puss…if I order this kit then this will be what I get ,huh ? Or …. am I totally off here . ! I prefer this to the other but, this is still a kit that includes the block if this is the first that I get …. my April kit would be something totally different (would not include the block ) please tell me I am somewhere toward clarity !! So the little $16.95 kit is only for a “look See” then you could order the March offering which is the one you showed us this morning if you want it ?? Holy Moly!!

  14. Alrighty ….I will get the journal kit first .. even if I don`t like it because that`s the first one ,huh? Another demo said (un named ) said at one time on her blog you could just order the March kit and to skip the Try Me kit ….. I just want to order the March offering that you are showing today !!!

  15. LOVED your one-act play, Brian! How did you have time to take off your other “hats” and put on a “playwright hat” with the Chocolate and Vendor Fair to prepare for? Are you a magician, too?
You did a super job promoting the Paper Pumpkin … your two variations are going to be pinned 😉

  16. I can see you greeting poor Shannon with your scissors in your hand, looking like you’re about to stab her to death. Maybe they should stay in the drawer, after all?
So, at this point, our first kit is the “try me” with the booklets, and we will not see the “hey there friend” kit at all, since it is past the tenth? Or is it all starting in March?

    • The Paper Pumpkin projects start with the great cards Brian offered up today with a monthly subscription. The 2 cute journals are for those who would rather just try a month’s projects without committing to the subscription.

  17. Thank you ,Richard …I am so glad there are others out there that are just trying to order the one that Brian showed today !! I am beginning to think that this is a cruel confusion joke being played on those of us that don`t belong to the Federation !!

  18. 😀 So funny – can picture it all playing out in my head!
