A Beautiful Birthday: PPA154 Color Challenge

OK, OK.  I admit that I went a little overboard with my dark and dirty card yesterday. Today, though, the clean and classy papercrafter is back with a Pals Paper Arts Challenge: PPA154.  They offer up a combination of three colors, and we are challenged to make a project that features them.  I’ll confess I was a bit puzzled by the combination at first – Raspberry Ripple, Calypso Coral and Crumb Cake – but the more I played around with the colors, the more I fell in love with them.  Here’s my card: stampwithbrian.com - Happy Birthday!

And here’s a link to PPA Color Challenge: PPA154Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Skip a Framelit.  The central focus of this card is this stacked and snipped birthday cake.  The cake is framed by layers of ovals.  The Raspberry Ripple border hugs the Whisper White oval, and the Crumb Cake oval hugs the Calypso Coral oval.  I skipped a framelit in the middle, though, to give the Calypso Coral a little more face time on the card.
  • Trim that sentiment.  As I flipped through my sentiments to find the perfect one for my layered ovals and birthday cake, I instantly knew I wanted to use the Happy Birthday sentiment from the You’re Amazing stamp set:

Even on a 6″ x 6″ card, this sentiment wouldn’t fit the way it was laid out, so I stamped it and snipped it and positioned it the way I wanted it.  I also repositioned the flourishes.stampwithbrian.com - Happy Birthday

  • Build a band.  I knew I needed to anchor the ovals with a band across the card – you can’t just have such delicate images floating in the middle of the card!  I mirrored the color layers in the ovals on the colors of the band (ordering the colors from the outside in).  I really wish you could see the number of shapes, textures, ribbons and cutouts I tried before arriving at this – a simple layering of card stock colors. BUT, I decided to center the Crumb Cake and Calypso Coral bands but to set the thin Raspberry Ripple band off center.  What fun!  I may need to make some cards that just have stripes.  Stripes are cool!
