This week I learned that I had just missed my friend’s birthday – and it wasn’t just ANY birthday. I missed Nancy’s 50th birthday. I never had an occasion to ask her birthdate (that’s a really bad habit of mine). Must. Be. Better. About. Gathering. And. Remembering. Birthdays. Anyway, I missed it. Although late, here’s my way of honoring her big day:
Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- Color Palette. When I sat down to make Nancy’s 50th birthday card, I knew I wanted the card to be all black and white. What better way to celebrate a milestone birthday? There are lots of ways to dress up a black and white card. You have to think through the layers carefully.
- A L-o-o-o-ng Banner. My original plan was to add a banner on each side of the sentiment. I didn’t like the way it looked, though, so I started playing around. I decided to position the banners in a way that it looks like a really long banner on which the sentiment is hung. I really like the look of this.
- A Big Shot Showcase. This card is an [inadvertent] advertisement for Stampin’ Up! exclusive framelits and The Big Shot. The four cutouts on the front of the card are cropped in the Big Shot with my Window Frame and Hearts a Flutter Framelits.

This is a very elegant card Brian, I’m sure Nancy will love it even if it’s a bit late. The sentiment embossed in white really makes this card shine. Love the looooong banner, it does look like the sentiment is hanging there.

I like the black and white for a change …it`s different and striking …she will like this card a lot even if it is late .Happy (belated) Birthday Nancy!!! He forgot mine too !! But, brilliant people can get a little absent minded sometimes !! He was too busy thinking about his Big Shot sale … btw…if somebody doesn`t have one you need to take advantage of this offer . There isn`t a die cutting machine out there that can outwork this one …. And I have them all…but, this big guy is the best ! I love my Big Shot !! I promise Brian did not ask me to say this …cross my heart and pinky swear !!!

This woman speaks the truth. I was hesitant about the Big Shot at first. Now, I couldn’t live without it. Well, I could live without it, but I wouldn’t be happy. It’s wonderful. If you have been putting it off, let’s talk. I want you to have it, so I want to shower you with reasons to break down and get it. You deserve it.
Nice card, I love the black and white but for a 50th birthday??? One might think you are insinuating that 50 is old….just sayin’. Hmmmmm, just kidding you, it’s really pretty.

The black and white always reminds me of the “Over the Hill” theme for birthdays ending in “0” 🙂 However, better to be “over the hill” than not! 😉

Suzie, y’all have me rethinking my design. I was going for “formal and elegant” with the black and white, but you are right! By mistake, it’s also the “over the hill” color scheme. Eeeek! 🙂
