A PSA and a Giveaway

I’ve got two biggies today, so I’m not going to waste any time getting started – unless you feel like that opening was wasteful, which it kinda is.  I mean why didn’t I just jump right into the first of two things I want to share?  Just get to the point?  Why did I start by announcing that I was going to not waste time?  Isn’t that a waste of time by itself?  I should have just jumped right in.  But then you would be sitting there, asking yourself, “What happened?  Why didn’t Brian ease into this post like he usually does?  Is everything OK?  Why is he rushing through this?”  You are the reason I do things the way I do – you always get me back on track.  What?  Oh, OK.  Thanks for the reminder.

A Public Service Announcement

There is only ONE WEEK until Sale-a-Bration goes away for good.  That’s right – Sale-a-Bration goes away on March 22.  Have you taken advantage of all the Sale-a-Bration has to offer?

Click on the Sale-a-Bration picture above to see an easy-to-read brochure of the Sale-a-Bration items offered this year – one item for every $50 spent.

Sycamore Street Designer Series Paper

For the next seven days, I am going to feature brand new cards and projects I’ve made using the items from Sale-a-Bration.  I’m going to start with Sycamore Street Designer Series Paper.  It makes me sad that the Sale-a-Bration brochure doesn’t really highlight the beauty of this paper because y’all should be snatching it up in droves.  The paper is extremely versatile – the patterns and colors on the various pages are bold, sophisticated and beautiful.  One of my favorite patterns is the Summer Starfruit pattern featured in my card below.  Since the first day of Sale-a-Bration, I have tried to make a card with this paper, but I just haven’t been successful.  This past week, I had an occassion (albeit a sad one) to use it as it deserves to be used.  Here’s the card I made:20130311-222645.jpg

  1. Congratulations Mary Jo, enjoy your goodies.
Brian, I always love reading your posts, I never scroll down in a rush to see what you have in store for us, I let you set up the stage and then, I go look. If you’ll ever just go right to the point without a little story or your awesome sense of humor, I would immediately think something is not quite right so, thanks for always keeping me in suspence and for my daily dose of smiles.

    • Goodness!!!!! I forgot to say that this card is so beautiful, everything about it says care and comfort and love. Thank you for creating it.
I’ve said it before, DSP scares me but I must say that the ones I got from your product shares are so beautiful. My problem is that I never know how to combine or mix and match this paper, I usually end up embossing my card stock do add dimmension to my cards.

  2. Such an elegant card and so appropriate . I know that it would be so appreciated …. and lets not talk about dsp and all it`s beauty …you know I`m a dsp addict and I also love this Sycamore Street series …it`s so workable with the In Colors …now you`ve done it …I`m thinking of a dsp that I really like that I think I`d better start hoarding before it`s gone for good !!! I feel an order coming on !!! And congratulations Mary Jo !!

  3. Brian, what a beautiful sympathy card and you’re right, the Sycamore Street dsp is great!

  4. I am ashamed to admit I haven’t broke open my Sycamore Street paper yet from my last order. I know how could I not. Shame on me! I will work on it. Meanwhile, the sympathy card is just lovely Brian. Very calming. My newest order should arrive at my door step Monday. Whoopeeee!

  5. Brian, there is not one thing that I would do differently in designing this card! The DSP and the stamped image provide soft and comforting elegance. The white spaces combined with the Teeny Tiny Wishes and the stitched ribbon balance that elegance with a quietness. I would have used plain ribbon instinctively, but the stitched ribbon is a much better choice – it brings both sides together with the white stitching. What adhesive do you use to adhere the DSP to the outside of the envie so that it makes it through the mailing process?

    • Thanks, Suzie! I used SNAIL – I ran it along the very edges of the envelope flap and the inside, making sure I get a good covering. Then I laid down the DSP and snipped around the edges from the bottom of the envelope flap. Fingers crossed it made it safely through the mail.

      • Brian, I would have normally reached for my double-sided tape. After your instructional blog entry on adhesives, 🙂 I was curious. Thank you 🙂 I’ll try it.

  6. Love your card! I do have a question? How did you make the envelope with the DSP?

    • Thanks, Debbie. I only covered the outside flap of the envelope with the DSP (described further in the post directly above this one). You can also make the envelope with Simply Scored if you want the entire envelope to be with the DSP.

  7. Beautiful card. I struggle with sympathy cards but this one is simple (but beautiful) and classy, just the right combination to express your thoughts to someone dealing with a loss. Thanks for sharing.

  8. Another stunning card! And congrats, Mary Jo . . . enjoy your goodies.

  9. OH MY GOODNESS!! I was sooo excited to see my name as the winner! Thank you Brian! I love coming to you blog every day to see what new and exciting things you have to share with all of us!! Thank you everyone for the congratulations – i am so happy!!
Love the card you made for today also…the Sycamore Street DSP is one of my favorites and I have been picking that a lot for my freebie!
HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY everyone!! Have a great weekend!

  10. Congrats to Mary Jo on her score!
Your card is beautiful, Brian. That stamp is perfect with that dsp design. –Terri O

  11. Brian – this card blew me away. I so have difficulties making sympathy cards. This one is not only elegant but it evokes your heartfelt desire to be a comfort to the receiver. I just love it.
MaryJo – you lucky gal – congrats and enjoy!

  12. Oh congratulations to your winner!!! Mary Jo, congrats!!
Cute waste of time, Brian…great intro!
    Have a great weekend!

  13. Okay, your card is fabulous…Summer Starfruit can really be beautiful…thank you!

  14. Quick pop in here …I agree Carol…Summer Starfruit has been the biggest surprise color for all of us I think …when I first saw it I really didn`t like it but, remembered that it is a color used in a lot of middle Eastern clothes and designs ….and when it is paired with other colors it`s stunning !! I haven`t used my Sycamore Street dsp yet …. I have been saving it !!!

  15. The Sympathy Card is more beautiful and comforting in person, Brian, and the envelope made it beautifully through the mail…thank you, my dear friend, for caring so much to send such a comforting card in the mail to me and my sweet son in our time of great loss of my husband Bruce. It is so perfect and special for this time. God bless you and {{HUGS}}.
