Every day this week, I am featuring one of the wonderful items you can earn during 2013 Sale-a-Bration, which goes away next week. I don’t want you to miss out! Today is no different.
It’s Sunday, and that means we have another great challenge from The Paper Players. Today’s challenge is to create a project with a Clean-and-Simple sketch by the wonderful and talented Ann Schach. Here’s my card:
From the moment the Sale-a-Bration items were revealed, I was super-stoked about the Pretty Petites stamp set and the Petite Curly Label punch. I wanted to make a card that with all the stamp set images on it, but they don’t really coordinate – cute as can be on their own but not so cute piled on a card front together. There’s one exception, though. In case you missed it, one of the stamps is simply a dotted outline of the shape with no sentiment or image inside. I sat down to create a card that uses that stamp in duplicate.
Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- Repeating patterns. Repetition is calming. This card sketch has three elements that are the same or similar. I wanted each of them to be the same and wanted to repeat patterns in each shape. One of the first things I noticed about the dotted border stamp from Pretty Petites is that it replicates the larger dotted border stamp from A Fitting Occassion. I knew these two stamps, in combination with the coordinating punches, would help me to create the repetitive, layered look I wanted. I cut three tiny strips of card stock and lined them up in the center of my Curly punch to give each image a coordinating belly band.
- A whole lotta’ snippin’ goin’ on. For the most part, I like to mat the components of my cards – I just think they stand out better with a little border of card stock around them. And sometimes, images just deserve a frame. 🙂 I matted both layers of the curly shapes on each of the three elements. In each case, the Midnight Muse card stock is the actual size of the punch. I snipped the Very Vanilla card stock after I stamped it to remove a bit of the edge around the image so that it would fit snuggly inside the mat. It was a lot of snipping, but I’m happy with the final look.
- Those butterflies. Butterflies are everywhere in Stampin’ Up!’s product line. They always have been, and I’m guessing they always will be. Since I was using the dotted border stamp from A Fitting Occasion, I decided to “kick the tires” on the the ole’ polka dotted butterfly from the same set. How adorable! It’s not trying to be life-like, and it’s not ashamed of its cutesiness. I changed up the color of the butterfly in each element to give a little excitement to the design.

Ah great! More snipping! I wondered how you layered those Labels! No one loves layers more than I <3 Adorable here! Cute little butterflies 🙂
Amazing paper snipping, Brian!!!!! I love the little butterflies looking so fabulous inside the pettite lable punch which, by the way, it’s on it’s way to my house, Yeah!! After thinking and thinking some more, I decided to get this great tool (well, Sonny helped a lot!!) as my SAB freebie. The coordinating little band of color under those buttterflies is the crowning touch to this really fabulous card.

Oh my goodness! What a beautiful card! It must have been a “no caffeine” day to do all of that snipping-I salute you! Thanks again for your inspiration!
Awesome bard Brian! I love the curly labels within the curly labels, and the matting is great too. Thanks for sharing!
Happy St. Patrick’s Day to everyone! It is actually a decent day here in Maine, sun shining, 24 degrees F. and NO wind! I absolutely love the card Brian – I’m definitely a CAS stamper and somehow you have managed to put a lot on this card and yet it looks clean and not overcrowded. I just love it. Great job!
Not a drop of ink out of place anywhere on the white – amazing! This is beautifully done – love all the white space with the pops of color!

Ohmmmm…..I am changing from the calmness of your card design! Seriously, I love this design and your colors!
Brian, this is a great card. You were sure busy “snipping”. I feel rather “stupid” but I cannot locate “A Fitting Occasion”. Could you please tell me where I can find it? Thanks!
Diane Gil
It is on page 101 of the main catalog. A very versatile set.
Such a perfectly crisp and happy card! Love all that coordination and layering! And your snipping is amazing! –Terri O
