A Bloomin’ Marvelous View

All this week I am sharing projects that feature exclusive Sale-a-Bration items. You’re on notice that Sale-a-Bration wraps up on Friday, so make sure you take full advantage of all it has to offer (all the cool people are placing their orders here.)

I’ll admit that this is the first time I’ve sat down to use my Bloomin’ Marvelous stamp set. Now that I’ve used it, I’m upset with myself for waiting so long. Because the set is designed with a texture to the images, the images are EASY to stamp – no worrying about getting a clean stamp because you won’t get one – and it’s all part of the design. AND that hummingbird is stunning. AND that butterfly coordinates with the Bitty Butterfly punch.

Here’s my card with Bloomin’ Marvelous:stampwithbrian.com - Bloomin' Marvelous

And here’s the stamp set:

Tips, tricks and reminders

  • Easy to snip. These flowers and leaves were all snipped by hand. I love to snip (and I already know you don’t like to snip – don’t think I don’t know you). Well, these little flowers were so easy to snip. No little caverns to snip into. It’s just in and out. I snipped out 8 or 9 of these flowers before I realized that’d be too many for this concept.
  • Second generation stamping. Some people call it a second generation stamp, and others call it stamping off once. You say “tomato”, I say “delicious fruit/vegetable that’s great on pizza”. No matter the nomenclature, the set is perfect for stamping once in the original color and then stamping another time or two (at another place on your page) without reinking. For example, I stamped the flower on Whisper White with Raspberry Ripple. Without reinking, I stamped it two more times. The second time I stamped it was lighter (actually very close to Primrose Petals). The third was faint and beautiful. This technique is perfect for creating a background or generating varying hues of the same principle color.
  • Adding a window pane. My unfinished card did not include the window pane. After I glued everything down, I was afraid the window just looked like an oval cutout. I trimmed two long, very thin strips of Basic Gray card stock and glued them perpendicular to one another at the intersection of the two. I ran that through the Big Shot with the appropriate Oval size, resulting in the perfect final component to the card. I made this card with just a Spring or Mother’s Day feel to it. After adding the off-center window pane, it also evokes a peaceful Easter feel to it. Do you see that?

  1. Great card Brian. I’m glad you added the window. I might have to purchase the Designer Series Paper you showed: it has given me a great idea for a card that has been in the planning stages for quite some time.

  2. I love everything about this card, Brian. You are so clever! I thought it was an Easter card before I properly read the sentiment. Ingenious! Wish I had half your talent.

  3. Just ordered this set last night! I’ve put it off long enough. Thankful there is a stamp that matches a punch otherwise did I really need another flower stamp set? Obviously I do! snip snip

  4. so, so lovely! I can see me having to get another pack of the dsp – I love using it so much at the moment.

  5. Beautiful card Brian, I also thougth it was an Easter card and it can be, the little piece of sky peeking through the window looks amazing. I don’t like to snipp but I will do it if necessary, I secretly wish there was a punch for each and every flower, bird, bunny, butterfly, vase, leaf…..I can go on and on.

  6. A wonderful card ! soooo sweet !

  7. This has been my favorite set all along. The words make it perfect. Flowers, butterflies, leaves, hummingbird and words. What else could you ask for. Great card too. Thanks.

  8. Oh how pretty ! This a great card and one that can be used for various reasons . The eye catching thing about this stamp set to me is the sentiments . The mixed fonts are so pretty and the sayings are different from the everyday greetings . And you are right …that Hummingbird is special . Love that dsp and who wouldn`t love that name …??

  9. I love this set and what you’ve done with it! How did you do the clouds?

    • Thanks, Diane! The clouds are printed on a full page of Sunshine & Sprinkles Designer Series Paper. All I did was run them through the Big Shot. 🙂

  10. HiBrian:

I think you meant to say Raspberry Ripple instead of Primrose Petals in your directions right? Now I’m a bit confused but that’s O.K., I’m feeling old and can forgive myself! LOL
