Announcement #2: Color Refresh

We love color and we know that you do too. Color is fundamental to who we are and what we offer. It’s important for us to stay up-to-date with color trends so we are thrilled to share our updated line of colors, and hope you will be as excited as we are by the new possibilities!

Why now? In 2010 we did a big color renovation and shared our plans for smaller color refreshes every three to five years to keep our colors on trend. Well it has been three years and we are excited to announce that the upcoming 2013-2014 annual catalog will include 10 new colors (most of which are returning In Colors from previous years)! We are welcoming back some of your favorites, moving some colors around, and introducing one brand-new color, so take a look!

Click on the flyer below to view a clear list of the new colors and to print a copy for yourself:Here’s the table (although it’s harder to read than the flyer – and less printer-friendly):

Beginning on April 4, 2013, all retiring/discontinued color products (i.e. ink, paper, ribbon, accessories, etc.) will be available only while supplies last. This means that some products will not be available through the retired list period. We did anticipate increased demand and based our forecasts for these retiring colors on historical sales information from previous color transitions. And the free shipping promotion (see above) means this is a great time for you to get your favorites before they are gone! (Free shipping is for North America only.)

So, what do you think? I am super-stoked about all of these changes. If you are like me, then you searched FIRST for Baja Breeze – only to find that it’s retiring. I’m OK with that – I’ve been weaning myself off of my unnatural dependency on it JUST IN CASE, so I’d like to announce that I’ll be OK. Also, Lucky Limeade is going away. πŸ™ For giggles, check out my post from early February (when I shared my hopes for a potential color refresh) by clicking here HERE. So, some of my requests were answered – and I’m happy for that. I hope you love the changes, too!

  1. Holy Cow! Is it April 4th already? Exciting News!

  2. noooooooooo! Not Baja Breeze πŸ™ (Hyperventilation).

  3. I love free shipping……..thanks for the updates!

  4. This is awesome Brian!! I love FREE SHIPPING!! who doesn’t? Thanks for the great news!!

  5. Free shipping is always a SUPER incentive! And, of course, as the great sales person you are, Brian, πŸ˜‰ suggesting the 10% saved in shipping could be turned into 10% more shopping …
Although I will be pondering the Color Refresh all day πŸ™‚ … at this writing (with coffee in hand), I am not sad to see River Rock go and surprised to see Crushed Curry return. I’ll greatly miss Pretty in Pink (part of my love for that color is that it is one of my favorite movies with my girls) and Bashful Blue as well. Soft sky returning does ease the loss of Bashful Blue some, though. And I guess I can see why Certainly Celery is leaving, but it shall be missed as well. Except for Baja Breeze, I’ m okay with the other deletions AND very happy with the new additions from the Old In Colors!
Have a great day! Thanks, Brian, for your newsy blog this morning.

  6. Good Morning, Brian and all loyal followers! The retired items~will they be on the clearance rack? Thank you so much for all you do:))

    • Thanks for your comment and question. The retiring colors are available at their regular prices and will only be available until they run out of current stock. I don’t know how much inventory Stampin’ Up! keeps, but my guess is that theses papers and inks will get snatched up before the new catalog is released in June, so I don’t think they will ever make it to the Clearance Rack.

  7. I remember having a “total melt down” in 2010 when they did the HUGE color renovation!! Many of the colors I L-O-V-E-D went away, especially the purples. AND – being the type of person who “needs it all”, I spent A LOT of money updating my supplies. I still become “sick” when I look inside of my drawer with “piles” of retired stamp pads, not to mention the mounds of retired card stock!! As you may recall – that is when the economy was really BAD and I did not appreciate their timing – why would they do this to their customers at such a difficult time? It wasn’t until then that I realized the purpose of the “In Colors” product – testing, testing… that is what it’s all about. So, I am glad I kept up with the In Colors product line, since then and I have it all, already , …well almost! Now …it’s just a matter of reorganizing and shifting things around. Organizing is something I LOVE to do – so THIS change is exciting! So pathetic, aren’t I???

    • I wasn’t sure where you were going with this comment, but I’m glad you came out on the good side. I’m really super-excited about the change-up of colors. Color trends are always changing, and it’s important to stay “on the cutting edge.” Even though my Baja is going away, I am happy to go along with this color change and know that SU! won’t steer us down the wrong path. I’m glad you didn’t get rid of your In Colors from previous years. You’re ahead of the curve, Barb! πŸ™‚

  8. How are you handling the loss of Baja Breeze? The only color that I’m really sad about losing is Bashful Blue. I use Pretty in Pink a lot, but I can substitute Pink Pirouette easily enough. Bummer, I finally got around to buying Regal Rose cardstock and now it’s going too.

    • I’ve been working away from Baja Breeze for several months just in case. My dependency was too strong. Glad, now, that I did. I love you, Baja Breeze, but it just wasn’t meant to be.

  9. My ONLY slight frustration with Stampin’ Up was I felt they weren’t keeping pace with the fast-changing stamping world. Notice i said “was”? The past 2 years have been big, wonderful changes (especially with their dies). I was feeling anxiety over losing Pool Party so am thrilled it’s being kept!! Others I will miss terribly (just as I do as In-colors change); but I’m soon loving the new colors. Also, it’s a bit challenging for SU to keep the DSP’s changing radically with the same colors year after year. 3 cheers for Stampin’ Up!!

    • Yay! I agree, Pam! You have to keep moving or everything will all be the same. Wait until y’all see some of the new DSP’s coming our way. You will be so happy!

  10. I’m. with Barb, I just invested in the all the stamp pads! will demos still use the retired stamp pads? I am new to stampin up.

    • Georgina, Thanks for your comment. It’s hard to say what demos will do. Some demos don’t even have all the colors to begin with. Some have the colors still from when they were “in” colors. Since I am still relatively new, I will purchase all of the new colors. They really do leave us with a great variety. This is a large shift that should only happen every three or four years. It’s a part of SU!’s desire to stay on top of color trends. Once the new catalog is revealed, there will be an opportunity to purchase them all in bulk – or you can pass and get them when you want them. I know it’s hard to hear that things are going away (especially when you’ve just bought some of it), but it really is a good thing. πŸ™‚

  11. Very interesting announcements! I look forward to some changes a d am sad about a few others…but we shall survive this too! Now to see what colors I need to stock up on…one perk of being a Hobby demo! Thanks for sharing, Brian.

  12. Well, I went through the list and there are a couple that I will probably get because I like them for certain times . More Mustard is definitely my go to fall color and I am glad the In Colors for this year turned out so versatile …look how long it took us to get used to Summer Starfruit …now, it`s that perfect choice for a pop to your main color . So change is good (I think ) …. BTW …Brian , I have been busy all morning with all the goodies you sent to the members …Thanks ,Prez ! I will let you know tomorrow how many cards I have made … Yay!

  13. One more comment (well maybe 2) – I sure wish SU would bring back the Stampin’ Spots!!! Does anyone remember those? It was certainly a product that could enable one to “have it all” at a reasonable price (set of 12 were 22.50, last available in 2009, I think) .They were also fun to use – wonderful for getting ink onto selected places! Instead of using them like a regular stamp pad, i.e, stamp to ink, I used them sort of backwards – ink to stamp, if that makes sense. My last comment to everyone, from EXPERIENCE – changing colors ARE the trend – so keep up with those “In COLOR” groups. It will save you alot of frustration in the end.

  14. I have mixed feelings. On the good side, they didn’t get rid of Old Olive or Night of Navy. The only way I’d be ok with Night of Navy going is if they subbed Midnight Muse. I can’t tell the difference. Old Olive, to me, is the only true green of it’s kind, so I will never be happy if it goes.

I don’t actually LIKE most of the colours going, so for me it’s not a big issue. The one I will miss is Baja Breeze. I’m getting more cs and a reinker via my demo (I’m in Canada).

On one hand, I find myself thinking I’ll miss Regal Rose. Yet I can’t actually even picture what it looks like. LOL. But I have the full set of the current Regals and Brights inks, so I’m getting reinkers.

Although I never liked Bravo Burgundy, it is a truer, purer burgundy, so that’s a wee bit disappointing. I liked it combo’d with Artichoke for Christmas cards. Cherry Cobbler goes with Artichoke, though, so it’ll work.

I can’t actually tell the difference between Celery and Pear, so..

All in all, they’ve done a good job (though in my head I’m crying, “Why? Why? ala Nancy Kerrigan post-ankle attack over the loss of Baja Breeze. LOL.).

  15. One recommendation is that you KEEP what they retire because you never know when they will bring it back. There are several current colors that were previous In Colors, and SU! announced a couple of years ago not to get rid of retiring colors ‘cuz they MIGHT bring previous colors back. Take for example, crushed curry, bermuda bay, soft sky, blushing bride, & pear pizzazz…they were “retired” but here they are again. I can honestly say I am looking forward to “new” colors, but I will miss Regal Rose. The others, I am not too attached to, so the transition should be fairly easy. BUT…I will have those “retiring” colors on hand just in case they return!!

  16. Okay – yes, I remember the great color debate of 2013. I am delighted that your Night of Navy request was denied. {wink} I’m terribly sorry for your Baja Breeze loss. But everything else, I’m super stoked about! Smoky Slate?! Can’t wait to get my hands on that little beauty. Bermuda Bay? Yummy. All in all, I’m very pleased. Nothing earth shattering for me. And I think it’s a huge improvement to the Subtle collection. I might actually buy that collection now! Yahoo!
