Going…Going…Day One

Going…Going…Doggone it!  You missed it!

Don’t be that person. As we get ready for the release of the 2013-2014 Annual Catalog on Friday and prepare to say goodbye to several stamp sets in the 2012-2013 Annual Catalog and 2013 Spring Catalog, I think it’s appropriate to take a step back and share some projects from the past year that feature products that are soon to be retired. I’ll be sharing those with you intermittently throughout the rest of this week.  If you are new to my blog, then these will all be a treat for you.  If you have been following my blog for the past year, these will hopefully be fond memories of projects gone by – but I hope you, too, find something new.

Each project will link back to the original post, so feel free to click on them to take you back to the original post.

Artistic Etchings

I love the images in this stamp set – they are all perfect for a vintage card with a romantic flair.  When I featured this stamp set on my blog in July 2012, I made a clean and simple card with some really beautiful elements – the embossed quarters, the cropped band in the middle and the combination of Basic Black, Basic Gray and Very Vanilla.  Here’s my card: Artistic Etchings, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

Hoop La La

When I first saw Hoop La La in the 2012-2013 Annual Catalog, I knew I had to have it.  It wasn’t “my style,” and it wasn’t something I’d normally be drawn to.  I think that’s what attracted me so much.  It reminded me of a cross stitch sampler, so I knew exactly what I wanted to make with the set.  When the Pals Blog Hop went live with items from the new catalog, this is the card I presented:Hoop La La, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingHoop La La and Flock Together

Are these birds adorable, or what?!  Flock Together is another stamp set that was introduced in the 2012-2013 Annual Catalog and that I included in my first order from the new book.  I envisioned the adorable polka-dotted birds on a wire, so I put them there.  Imagine that!  I used a sentiment from Hoop La La to softly coordinate with the birds.Hoop La La, Flock Together, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

The family of partridges in this stamp set reminded me of The Partridge Family, so I made this card with a bunch of vibrant cutouts in the background.  I loved making this card.  It was so fun to play with all the shapes and colors to get the final look I wanted.Flock Together, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

Raining Flowers and Word Play

What a wonderful collection of sentiments – everything you could ever need is right here in this set.  If you don’t have it, you should consider snatching it up before it’s gone.  I really love the shapes and textures in Raining Flowers, a two-step stamp set.  Perfect for stamping and snipping – not too small, not too large.  They stack really well, and this card displays my “there’s magic in threes” idea.  This sentiment from Word Play coordinates really well with this stamped image.

This card features the “Thanks a Million” sentiment from Word Play.  A little DSP, a couple of punches and die cuts is all you need to have a beautiful, complete card.Word Play, Stampin' Up, Brian King

Make a Monster

I never bought Make a Monster, but when Pam let me borrow her set, I have a field day.  I not only made these adorable (can I say that my own work is adorable?) 3″ x 3″ cards with the set, but I made my nephew’s birthday card.

I stamped two acrylic blocks in Calypso Coral and Lucky Limeade, stamped the adorable monsters and then used a blender pen to color-in each of the monsters.  I was really happy with how these cards turned out.  Oh!  We also didn’t have googlie eyes at the time, so I made the eyeballs with Crystal Effects on a clean piece of Whisper White.  Snipped ’em and added them here. Make a Monster, Teeny Tiny Wishes, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

I stamped these images on colored card stock and snipped them out to make this card for Kellett’s birthday.  I was really happy with how this one turned out – bright, primary colors with lots of personality.  Stampin’ Up! was offering googlie eyes at this point, so I didn’t have to look too far to embellish these monster eyes.Make a Monster, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

I hope you enjoyed this walk down memory lane and hope you saw something new.  Don’t have these sets?  I know where you can get them.  🙂  You can just click here to pick them up today.

Thanks for stopping by my blog today!

Lovely collection of cards, Brian. I started to follow your blog since August of last year so I missed all the cards you made on the previous months so, I thank you for showing them here, it’s been a treat for my eyes. From all of the sets you used on this post, I only have the one with the little monsters, I bought it as soon as it came out, I just love it and I use it all the time. My grandchildren have received cards made with it, I’ve made birthday invitations and birthday cards for some of my friends grandkids with it too, it’s just super cute and now, with the googlie eyes, it’s a snap to make them even cutter. I can’t wait till you show the rest of your wonderful creations.

  5. You convinced me to order Make A Monster

  6. Wonderful walk down Memory Lane, Brian! I have many of these, but I’m holding out a bit for the next viewings…so love the Eiffel Tower! Never saw that one and I have this wonderful set. All your cards are so “gawjus”!! Keep ’em coming, our fearless leader!!

  7. Oh “shoot-fire” as a friend of mine says. I had absolutely no reason to want the Make a Monster set. . . . . but now I do!!!!! Why do you have to make such cute cards Brian? Our church has a craft fair each year and the Make a Monster set would make adorable birthday cards. I knew those googlie eyes I saved from some long forgotten project would come in handy someday!

  8. I just love the way you connected the balloon to the tiny monster’s hand with twine! You are Mr. Creative in my book. I can’t wait to put in an order from the new catalog! However, these samples are a great reminder of what I may have missed in the present catalog. Oh to win the lottery and just say “Brian, send me one of everything”! LOL

  9. Very nice but I am not going to budge yet. 🙂

  10. I love the monster card! they are really cute 🙂
