A French Hello for the Paper Players

It’s Sunday, and that means one thing – it’s time for a design challenge from the Paper Players.  This week, Ann Schach has selected…not one…not two…not three…but four colors to awaken our creativity.  Three Subtles and a Neutral:  Calypso Coral, Pool Party, So Saffron and Early Espresso.  For this card, I allowed two of the colors to stand front-and-center while the other two colors added a very important background element.  Here’s my card:Chere Amie (My Friend), Stampin' Up!, Brian KingAnd here’s the color challenge banner:

The focal point on this card is a piece of Stampin’ Up!’s water color paper.  Want to know how I created this background?  Keep reading.  Want to know the best way to prepare and serve spinach?  You’re in the wrong place.  If you are still reading, then I suppose you want to hear about this background, so…

On the largest clear-mount block, I added some So Saffon ink and a little bit of Calypso Coral and Pool Party inks by tapping my stamp pads directly on the block.  Using a Stampin’ Spritzer filled with water, I sprayed the block to wet the ink.  I then stamped the block off once, moistened it again and then stamped it directly on a piece of watercolor paper.  I then embossed the sentiment with Early Espresso embossing powder (tricky with watercolor paper, but totally do-able).

You may have seen this same sentiment design in My Friend, a popular stamp set for some time.  Did you know that many of your favorite stamps are sold in another language?  You can see them here.  A simple word in another language can make your card a little more chic. 🙂  Impress your friends with your multilingual skills.  !Que bueno!

I hope you like today’s project.  Check out the other cards at The Paper Players.

Thanks for stopping by my blog today!

  1. “C’est Magnifique” And I thought it was DSP! Now I’m craving spinach…no not really 🙂 Love the color pallet, I just might play!

  2. What a visual delight ! I like the effect very much. A lot of the projects I have seen done like this do not have the subtle softness as this. I bet it`s the stamp off that keeps it from looking like a splatter rather than a spritz . If you had time to do this creation then doing all of those Shares and Swatch Books musta been a piece of cake , huh ? I also like the simple but bold sentiment . French is such a pretty language….there are other languages that would not have the same effect . I will not give any examples !!

    • Aw, come on, Sonny! I bet I know some examples you’re think of…teehee!! I agree with you on the stamping off first, it makes a big difference! And doesn’t Brian’s card look so nice with it? {But don’t tell him, he might get the big head…LOL}!! Oh, Hello, Brian! Great card, Brian!!! Love the colors in the challenge!

  3. Oh Brian..you are so….international! Great technique and card!

Ahh!! Que bonita targeta, Brian!! That means What a beautiful card, Brian!! Who would have thought that you can get such a beautiful design using the acrylic blocks as a stamp!!!!! I thought you sponged the colors on the paper. I love how they kind of melt into each other and I think that is due to using water color paper. The embossed word really pops against those beautiful colors.

  5. Gorgeous card. Makes me think of a French cafe. Love that coloring technique. I am definitely going to give that a try.

  6. Such a lovely card, Brian. I thought you sponged the colors, too, but I should have known better … with the card coming from you! 😉
And the “Bon Jour” with its lovely swirl is a great finishing touch. Indeed,”C’est Magnifique!” — thanks, Patti 🙂

  7. Interesting concept Brian – I’ll have to give it a try.

  10. Love it! I think it is so ‘chic’. I have used these colors together a lot when making sympathy cards. Soft and soothing. I’ve put color on the clear blocks and stamped, but never thought about using water color paper and spritz. Will try it.
