For the New Mr. & Mrs: a PP151 Sketch Challenge

I love the crisp and beautiful wedding-themed images in Just Married, a stamp set that was introduced in the 2013 Spring Catalog. It wasn’t until the set made its way into the 2013-2014 Annual Catalog that I finally ordered it. I’ve always been hyper-focused on the multi-tiered wedding cake, but my mind went right to the two pairs of shoes the moment I saw this sketch from Nance Leedy, this week’s challenge from The Paper Players:

Here’s my card based on Nance’s sketch:Just Married, Petite Pairs, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

Tips, Tricks and Reminders:

  • Balance of colors. I talk about it all the time, but this card is a good example of balancing the colors. The three colors (Blushing Bride, Basic Black and Soft Slate are pretty well-balanced here when you try my patented squinting technique (please send me a nickel). I cropped several layers of cardstock in different colors until I came up with the combination I liked best.
  • Check your Papers. I knew I wanted a classy Designer Series Paper on my card. I looked for Basic Black papers, Smoky Slate papers or Blushing Bride papers. When I came across this classy image from Eastern Elegance, I know I was in love.
  • Snipping the Day Away. I really like these shoes, but I felt like they needed something extra. Could I add some color with my Blender Pens? Because you know me well, you might have guessed that I snip my way to the look I wanted. I stamped the shoes on Whisper White with Jet Black Stazon and then again on Smoky Slate and again on Blushing Bride. I snipped the inside soles from the Smokey Slate and snipped the bows from the Blushing Bride. I really liked this combination.Just Married, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

  7. Great wedding card. I like the “fun” aspect, not “stuffy”. Very attractive layout, color combo, and of course “snipping”.

  8. Your timing is perfect Brian – you read my mind. I am attending a wedding out of state on Saturday the 29th! LOL

  9. So for the shoes you actually stamped it three times indifferent colors and then snipped out the various parts and glued it all together? That’s super cool!

For you, what do you think the biggest difference is between inking it in and doing the multiple stamps?

  10. Fabulous, Brian! So unique and clever!

  11. Hi Brian, I wanted to take a few minutes to thank you for your awesome blog, and for sharing part of you with all of us out here in blogger land.

I subscribe to your posts, and have gleaned many tips from you, and I especially liked a card you made some time ago with Jewish Celebrations. I’m not 100% certain it was you, but pretty sure. Maybe it isn’t you after all because I have searched every post and haven’t found it.

If you were the wonderful guy who posted a non-traditional card using Jewish Celebrations, would you pleaseeeeeee tell me where to find the post on your blog.

Thank you for everything, Linda Fisher http://www.devotedstamper.com
