Happy 4th of July with Pals Paper Arts

Happy Fourth of July! Just like Thanksgiving and Christmas, today is a time to reflect on all the things we have to be thankful for – and we have a lot. Regardless of your political beliefs or your opinions of the events of the day, we have to know that we live in a wonderful country. She doesn’t always get it right, but she’s still learning. I love that!

To celebrate the 4th, The Pals Paper Arts team has issued a patriotic color challenge this week: Pacific Point, Real Red and Crumb Cake. Here’s my card:Daydream Medallions, Truly Grateful, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

And here’s the Pals Paper Arts Challenge banner:PPA162 July 4

Tips, Tricks and Reminders:

  • Truly Grateful.  This sentiment is from Truly Grateful, a beautiful Thanksgiving set available in the Holiday Catalog.  Although this clearly is not a Thanksgiving card, I think the sentiment works nicely in this patriotic card.  I love its simplicity here.
  • Daydream Medallions.  I received Daydream Medallions some time ago, but I’ve not seen many samples with the set, and this is the first time I’ve used it.  Rather than build the layers with different colors of ink, I decided to alternate the colors of paper and maintain a consistent color for the stamped image.  I chose White Embossing Powder and was very happy with this decision.  Here’s a closeup of the center of the card:Daydream Medallions, Truly Grateful, Stampin' Up!, Brian King
  • Stop!  No more!  After the background layers were created and the medallion was assembled, I really wanted to add something more on the background – an embossing folder, a lightly stamped image.  I tried different things but ultimately decided to let the Crumb Cake cardstock speak for itself.  Sometimes I have to remember that clean and classy might be my best option.  It was Coco Chanel who said, “Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off.”  I live this every day, Ms. Chanel.  🙂

Stamp Sets:  Daydream Medallions, Truly Grateful  Inks:  none  Papers:  Pacific Point, Real Red, Crumb Cake  Accessories:  White Embossing Powder, Floral Frames Collection Framelits, Candy Dots (neutrals), Stampin’ Dimensionals

  10. Beautiful card, Brian. Reminds me of a picnic! I bought some red/white napkins recently that are similar to this look. If only it weren’t so wet today we might have had A picnic. The sentiment goes so well for the occasion too! Great job!

  13. Brian you always have a stunning example of stamp sets I covet. I had hesitated buying (but its on its way to me right now) this set because I was concerned that I would limit myself to my usual elegant embossed style and since I have so many sets that fit that style I was afraid to type cast myself. Today you showed me that by choosing different and bold colors I can change the entire look of the stamp set. Thanks!!!!!

  14. Happy 4th Brian! Love, love, love your card!
