The Power of Two…

I flew out of Salt Lake City at 2:14 am Sunday morning.  What an incredible week!  While I hoped to keep you updated on the realtime events in Salt Lake City, I simply didn’t realize how time-consuming this experience would be for me.  I never dreamed I would be unable to fill you in on everything – seems like I am always able to find time when I’m home.  🙂  I took Sunday to relax and catch up on some much-needed sleep.  Tomorrow, I will give you a recap on my trip, including some pictures and a rundown of all the amazing promotions and new product announcments.  I look forward to sharing with you.

Today, I’m sharing another project from my Convention Display board.  This card is a quick-and-easy card with a little twist.  Given the fact that coffee got me through the last five days, today’s card is quite fitting.  First, I’ll share the card.  Then, I’ll talk incessantly about it.  🙂  Here’s my card:Perfect Blend, Yippee-Skippee, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • The cups.  I absolutely love the sketched coffee cups from Perfect Brew.  They are perfect for stamping, snipping and layering – with no tiny corners for those of you who are snipping-adverse.  Using Early Espresso, I stamped each of the cups on Sweater Weather Designer Series Paper, Crumb Cake and Whisper White.  I then snipped out the lid and the cuff.  I glued those to the DSP cup.  How easy!
  • The snipping.  Did I say the snipping is easy?  [please hold for a moment while I scan back through my earlier comments…]  YES!  I did say it.  And I mean it.  Because the edges of the cups are so heavily sketched, there’s no need to have a terribly clean cut on the edges.  Once you glue everything down, you are good-to-go!
  • The sentiment.  Never underestimate the power of two cups of coffee.  Do you see what I did there?  Did you catch it at first?  When I first saw the sweet sentiment from Yippee-Skippee, my first thought was “never underestimate the power of two WHAT?” and really wanted to figure out a way to put my own twist on it.  Of course I know that the sentiment stops there, but I wanted to stretch it out a bit and entirely change its meaning.

What do you think?  Do you like what I did with this sentiment?  I “rebranded” the sentiment “hello baby” from Sweet Essentials when I paired it with the pig from Button Buddies (retired).  See it here.  Are there other sentiments in the Annual Catalog that can be used for something entirely different?

Stamp sets:  Perfect Blend, Yippee-Skippee, ABC-123 Alphabet & Numbers  Papers:  Early Espresso, Soft Sky, Whisper White, Crumb Cake, Sweater Weather Designer Series Paper  Inks:  Early Espresso  Accessories:  Early Espresso Detailed Embossing Powder, White Detailed Embossing Powder, Stampin’ Dimensionals

  7. Welcome back, Brian. I’m sure that, no matter how much you enjoyed this past few days, coming home feels awesome and I bet that Bandit is oh so happy to see you again.
I saw a picture of your display of cards that Mary posted on her Facebook page, Sonny told me about it and I must say, all of those cards you made for it are gorgeous. This card is fabulous, I don’t know anybody who doesn’t like coffee and the way you snipped this cups and the way you “altered” the sentiment is brilliant. I can’t wait to see more pictures and hear all about your fabulous experience at the Convention.

  8. Super clever, Brian! I’m looking forward to hearing all about your Convention experience.

  9. Great card Brian. I am loving this Sweater Weather DSP! Can’t wait to her about your trip.

  10. Love the card Brian. I know the three people who live in my house who would love this card. Any sentiment would do. I was thinking when one of them felt a little “down” this coffee cup would certainly “perk” them up. We are addicted to coffee. Thanks a bunch.

  11. LOVE it!

  12. Oh my gosh Brian – I used to hate those “red eye” flights. It would take me days to catch up on sleep and get back to normal – or as close to “normal” as I ever was! LOL Anywhooooo
I can’t wait to hear all about convention. It always amazes me when SU goes over the top for it’s demonstrators. I guess that is why they hold onto them so much longer than other stamp companies. Great coffee card – now you have to even it up with a great card for us tea lovers. LOL

  13. Love the message twist and you kept us in suspense on where to get the letters for “cups”. Great fun to meet you last week and see you recognized for you success.

  14. Hi Brian, my new BFF! Glad to see you made it home safe after our long flight! Love this card! This stamp is going on my order today thanks to you and others at convention who used it for swaps that I received!

Hi Brian, Love the card! First and foremost I want to Congratulate you for you award at convention. I was not there but my cousin was and she sent me pics of u on stage receiving ur “watch”. She tried to get to u throughout the convention to get a pic of u and her together for me but to no avail. She knows how much I follow ur blog everyday before I have COFFEE!!!! 24. OK, now that IS funny Brian, I might have to do something like that, too.
Happy to meet you finally and many congrats on your award! You ARE “the difference” to many of your readers!

  25. So cute!! I could see writing names or the drink (grande nonfat chai) on the band of the cup. Just to add an extra personalization. Love it!

  26. Great card, Brian! Congrats on your reward! While you sleep…dream up some more great stuff to share!!
    Hugs!

  27. Your card is great! Yes, adding to the sentiment the way you did really made such a difference in the look of the card! Have to say that the true hilight of convention for me was meeting Brian at a hotel on Wednesday evening and, yes, having a picture taken to prove it! And then seeing him on the street a few times again! Fun, fun, fun! Thank you for being so fun and gracious, Brian!

  28. Just rembered that it was so exciting to watch Brian walk across the stage to accept a great award, the only and first guy demo so far…waaayyyyyy to go Brian! His demo area was, as suspected, very crowded and hard to get close, but that was wonderful to see! It was crazy the whole time but great fun…happy to be back home and resting and reflecting!

  29. HIP HIP HURRAY and CONGRATS on your RISING STAR AWARD. I was so Happy for you and glad I was there to see you on stage. Can’t wait to see what awards you get next year.

  32. Oh, Brian! Another fantastic card where you’ve used something in a way I would have never imagined! LOVE LOVE LOVE this card! (And I’m not even a coffee drinker!) Now I’m seriously thinking about getting “Yippee-Skippee!” and the alphabet stamps! Great! More to add to my wish-list!

  33. Perfect card for today’s post. With all the ‘buzz’ about your fab award and convention demo cards, coffee seems to fit perfectly. Get it? Coffee – buzz. Warped sense of humor. What a superior honor on the award you received at convention! Woot Woot!! Can’t wait for all the details and pics. Glad you’re back home. Get yourself some much need rest my friend.

  38. Oh wow!! I saw this card on Pinterest and had to see who created it!! I love it!! I have stared at that sentiment stamp for awhile wondering what to do with it – you’re brilliant!! Too cute with the cups! TFS!!

  39. Not only a great card, but hilarious and clever as well. Love it!!

  40. I like your twist on the power of two!! Really like it!!

  41. Thanks for making me giggle with your humor! You had to have been an English major in college! TFS

  42. Hi Brian,
I saw your demo at convention and loved both your enthusiasm and vast creativity. I have 2 boys (and 3 girls) and am always looking for great guy projects. My youngest son, age 9, even wants me to start a “Stampin’ Dudes” club for him and his friends. (I think it may also involve running and sword fighting in between stamping! hah!) One of your projects that most caught my eye was this card with the two coffee cups. I cased it (with a few tweaks of my own) for our demo swap this month and posted it on Stampin’ Success this morning. Feel free to look and see if you like my version. Thanks for the great idea and for sharing your gifts! Praying your tribe continues to grow! ~ Stefani Carter
