Soho Thank You

Today, I’ve got another card from my Masculine Cards board at Conventions.  If you are asking yourself, “Did Brian go to Convention this year?,” then check out my post here.  If you are continuing to read and don’t know the answer to that question, then shame on you because you are missing out on a really great summary of Convention (here).

All right.  Now that we are all back.  Of all the cards I made for this board at Convention, this is possibly the simplest AND one of my favorites – perhaps because of its simplicity.  Here’s my card – then, we’ll chat about it.Hello Lovely, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

Tips, Tricks and Reminders:

I’ve got a lot to say about this card, so hold on tight – I am about to talk your adorably petite ear right off the side of your face.

  • That paper!  I have to start by saying how much I love, love, love this piece of Designer Series Paper from Soho Subway.  I’ve talked about my paper obsession with other papers (remember that one Pear Pizzazz grasscloth paper from Gingham Garden) that I just have to save up for “the perfect” project.  This, as it turns out, was a great way to display this weathered wood design from Soho Subway.  With a big panel of this wood, I have the strong foundation for a simple, but still pretty, card.  I used the colors from the paper to select the other colors for the card.
  • Building a Unique Sentiment with Framelits.  If you know anything about me, you know I love to play around with shapes of punches and framelits to build a unique sentiment.  I really like the look of this one – I stamped the image and trimmed it around the edges.  I then used one of the shapes from the Chalk Talk framelits to create a rounded Sahara Sand border around the stamped image (I ran the framelit through twice to create the same shape on both sides and to fit the frame perfectly around the sentiment).  Finally, I cropped an Island Indigo shape using the Apothecary Accents framelits.  To transform it into a tag, I snipped the half circle off the right side of the shape.  Voila!
  • Adding Texture.  It’s a simple addition, but it makes all the difference in the world.  Before gluing the layered panel of Designer Series Paper to the card base, I wrapped linen thread around the panel three times and taped it on the back.  I made sure each wrap was equidistant.  I think it adds that touch of texture the card needs (although the Designer Series Paper has a textured look, we all know there’s nothing rough about it – we aren’t fooled that easily!).

  14. Okay, another cop out…..there is nothing more to say about this fab card! Except that I don’t have this DSP, and am seriously considering it for the guys in our family…. And like Patti, could not get too close to your booth, but could see you in the mirror and knew your voice at once! But I got to really meet Brian and have a pic with him!!! Who hoo! Thanks Brian and Justin for being the photog!

  15. Love this card,Brian. I’m tempted to experiment with creating that same DSP look in other colors by doing some direct to paper inking with my SU white craft pad and maybe a purple and red pallet. I’ll report back if this is a success.
