A Fall Gift for Him

Today I’m happy to share a project from my masculine-themed presentation at Convention. Since this project also fits the bill of this week’s challenge from the Paper Players (Fall-themed, Anything But a Card), I am submitting this project to their great challenge, as well.

Here’s my project:Notable Notions, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PP157

And here’s the challenge badge from Anne Marie:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders:

  • Making a kraft box. Do you want step-by-step instructions on how I made the box that is the base of this project? It’s really very simple! Here goes: place a Stampin’ Up! order and include item #124106 (page 160 of the Annual Catalog). You will receive four boxes (3-1/2″x3-1/2″x2-1/2″) kraft boxes for only $2.95. How easy (and inexpensive) is that? And they are perfect for a small, Fall gift or snack. Who doesn’t love a gift (or a snack, for that matter)?
  • Still Masculine. I used two items on this project that wouldn’t normally qualify as “masculine,” and I will stand by my decision (if you are sitting on the edge of your chair, ready to argue with me). 🙂 Not only did I use the stamp set Notable Notions (a sewing-themed stamp set) to create this cool tag, but I contend that this sentiment is just as fine for a man as it is for a woman. It’s OK to tell a man that he makes people happy – if it’s true. I also made a flower bow – a flower bow (just repeating for emphasis) – with a couple of punches. To further make the flower suitable for a masculine project, I created a faux suede look on the flowers, giving them a nice look and texture. If you would like to see my description of this technique, click here.
  • Texture. The various textures of this project further masculinize the gift. The Sweater Weather Designer Series Paper is smooth to the touch, but it really gives the look of cloth. The burlap ribbon adds a rough texture, while the chevron ribbon is smooth and clean. The flower shows up with an aged fragility. Together, these all add visual interest to the project. And your finger will want to explore all of these textures in person.

Stamps sets: Notable Notions, Petite Pairs Papers: Sweater Weather, Chocolate Chip, Crushed Curry, Very Vanilla Inks: Chocolate Chip Accessories: Kraft Gift Boxes, Chalk Talk Framelits, 1-3/8″ Circle punch, 1-1/4″ Circle punch, Designer Buttons (Regals), Blossom punch, Pansy punch, Linen Thread, 1-1/4″ Burlap Ribbon, 3/4″ Chevron Ribbon, Stampin’ Dimensionals

Thanks for stopping by my blog today!

Reminder. As you are placing your orders from the new Holiday Catalog, please remember that there are still some great carryover items (from last year’s Holiday Catalog). Included in the bunch are a wonderful Christmas sets with coordinating framelits, the most beautiful Hanukkah stamp set I’ve ever seen, some punches and two really great sentiment sets. More Merry Message just might be the best Christmas sentiment set out there. If you would like to check out the flyer, please click here.

    I love It!

  7. Awesome box Brian! I love the sweater weather DSP…now if we could just have some sweater weather…

  8. This is very handsome, Brian. I didn’t get to see it up-close-and-personal at convention, and I am so glad you shared it here. This is, by far, the nicest presentation that I’ve seen with the box. TFS.

  9. Really nice job, Brian…love the whole thing…I think it is very masculine…men like flowers too!!

  10. I am in awe that when you cut the paper to decorate the sides of the box you were able to keep the plaid PERFECTLY straight. I always seem to end up with a bit of a tilt to anything plaid be it paper or fabric. An absolutely beautiful gift box which would also make a fabulous fall decoration on a hutch or end table. Fantastic job!

  11. I WANT THIS BOX!!!!! Loving it in every way. You get my vote for the Paper Players Challenge. Gotta get me some of these boxes.

  12. I got a bit sidetracked with the challenge…ABAC….my mind went whirling around as to what could I come up with for that ??? What fun ! Your “Man” box certainly fit . And it`s so handsome …I think it`s trans gender though . The colors and dsp are just perfect for Autumn …I like it a lot !

  13. Gorgeous Brian! (I mean the box…ok then, you are too!) I love the sweater weather papers too. And the flower bow is an excellent idea. Totally yummy!

  14. Yep, it’s a Manly box. My Dad would appreciate it and he’s 92. ( And a WW2 vet, and former consulting Rosarian for the West Pasco Rose Society.) I think I will make him one!
Thanks, Brian, for a nifty idea!

  15. I’ve never used one of these kraft boxes before, but I love how you didn’t try to wrap it all the way around, but left the corners of it exposed. It kind of turns the kraft box itself into a matte on all the sides, and what a great coordinating color it adds! Love the browns, blue and yellow mixed together.

  16. Great use of texture, Brian! I love this DSP! Thanks for playing with The Paper Players!

  17. I love the colors of your box, very striking combination! Like the clean lines of your project, too!

  18. Brian, I literally laughed out loud at your “directions” to make the box. Seriously almost spit coffee all over my laptop. Haha! This is such a fun project and I love that paper. The color combo is just so warm and cozy. Thanks so much for joining us this week at the Paper Players for my anything but a card challenge! 🙂
