Ho! Ho! Ho! for The Paper Players

Unless you are following The Paper Players, you might have missed my good news this weekend – I wanted to wait until today (while posting my card for this week’s challenge from The Paper Players) to share the news with you. On Saturday, I was selected as “The Headliner” for last week’s single-layer card challenge. This is my first win in an online challenge – I’ve been a finalist or a selected favorite, but this was my first win. Yay for me. To see the card that I submitted to last week’s challenge, click here.

Now for today’s project – this week’s submission to The Paper Players, PP160. I’ll share the card and then talk ad nauseam about it. 🙂 Here’s my card:Tag It, Oh Goodie!, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PP160

And here’s Nance Leedy’s sketch that inspired my Ho Ho Ho creation:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Color Selection. I fell in love with the Cherry Cobbler and Old Olive color combination last year, and I love it just as much this year, but when I decided to showcase Mr. Claus on today’s card, I reached for my bright red and bright green. Real Red and Gumball Green shine here – and I added no other colors to make sure it stayed that way.
  • Washi Tape – a Dual Purpose. The green strip across the center of the card is a strip of Season of Style Designer Washi Tape. The tape serves two functions here – it’s a design element (duh!), but it also held the Whisper White card stock down to my grid paper while I used my Stamp-a-ma-jig to stamp down the Ho Ho Ho words. The washi tape is easy to pull up and re-stick if necessary, so I could easily pull it up off the grid paper and snip it away from the side. Score!
  • Lining up the HOs. I knew I wanted a repetitive string of “ho ho ho” along the sides of the washi tape. I used my Stamp-a-ma-jig to make a straight line, skipping the area where my chevron pieces would eventually be glued down. I had to leave the opening for the chevron pieces or the words would create a cluttery mess.
  • A fourth bullet: better in threes. I know you hear this a lot from me, but I believe things are balanced in threes. This card is a shining example (I only realized it after I made it) – three stripes, three HOs, three chevron arrows, three candy dots. Tag It, Oh Goodie!, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PP160

Stamp Sets: Tag It, Oh Goodie! Inks: Real Red, Gumball Green Papers: Real Red, Gumball Green, Whisper White Accessories: Chevron Builder punch, Chalk Talk Framelits, Season of Style Designer Washi Tape, Brights Candy Dots, Stampin’ Dimensionals

It’s been on a very long vacation. Congrats on your ‘Headliner’ award. (Insert applause) I can see it now, your name in lights on a billboard. Just blinking away, all sparkly and glittery. Glittery……no worries, it won’t attach it’s self and cling to you. Can’t wait to hear which other title you will win in the future. Looking forward to another week of Brian goodness.
