I’ve been sharing a lot of square cards this week. Today, my friends, that changes. I didn’t want to get caught in a rut of just making square cards, so today I’ve made a card that’s sqare-ISH. The front of this card measures 5-1/2″ x 6″ – not a perfect square. Look at me! Why would I ever make a card with these odd measurements? Two reasons: (1) because I can and (2) because I wanted to show that I could make an envelope with my new envelope punch board – available September 1.
While I was breaking boundaries with my non-square card ( 🙂 ), I decided to showcase one of the new single stamps that were introduced last week. Here’s my 5-1/2″ x 6″ card made with Christmas Star:
Look at that giant beauty! When I saw that the single stamp was priced at $9.95, I questioned the pricing, but this stamp is essentially a background stamp. Yippee!
Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- 3-D Star. I stamped this star with Night of Navy on Whisper White cardstock. I snipped the star. It’s an easy snipping job – no fussy cutting on this giant beauty. I then scored the star (from point to corresponding crevice – over and over). I folded the insides inward and the points outward and mounted the middle on a stack of Stampin’ Dimensionals. It was a fun experiment and really easy to do.
- Embellished Greeting. After I decided where I would place my star, I formed three swirls with pencil dots that would soon be covered with shiny rhinestones. I mixed up the sizes of the rhinestones to add a little interest to the design.
- Coordinating Envelope. That’s right, I made an envelope for this 5-1/2″ x 6″ card using my envelope punch board. I cut my Designer Series Paper according to the chart on the board, lined up the left edge of the paper on the ruler and scored the edges. I folded it and glued it down. Envelope – done!

WOW WOW WOW, beautiful card! Of course I love the bling…..well I love everything about it. Awesome.
Such a handsome 3-D Star! Love them in shades of Blue! I imagine they would make a great addition to Holiday Garland, the Christmas Tree and adorn wreaths as well so I see the value increasing with every turn of my mind! Thanks for sharing-just beautiful!
Scoring a stamped image…how DO you think of these things Brian? Stunning!
This star makes quite a statement Brian!! It looks fantastic in 3D with the sparkly rhinestones swirling around it!! I love using Navy, especially in a Cristmas card. The sentiment with that classy font is one of my favorites too!!
A true masterpiece !!! So stunning ….. You really are a star ! You did a fantastic creation with this …. My daughter Starr would love this !
What a gorgeous card! So rich and beautiful! I love that star and your swirls of rhinestones are perfect. You are such a clever boy! 🙂
Beautiful! Now I have to have that stamp!
This stamp has just moved from my ‘wish list’ to my ‘must have list’. Wow, what a beauty this card is! Love the 3D look and the rhinestone swirls. And I love your first reason for making an a-typical size card, ‘because I can’!
oh you enabler you!! Now I “need” that stamp!! lol BEAUTIFUL card, Brian!
Stunning! Would never had thought of making a 3D. Putting it on my list …checking it twice. Have a great day and long weekend.
Lovely! Is there a “how-to” video for the envie punch on your horizon? I got it, but ya’ must have to be smarter than the punch…my attempts were not successful. (To redeem myself some, i admit i did it in a rush, Mr Brown arrived moments before i left town to my son’s wedding…i just HAD to play first!?!) hopefully i can figure it out when i return home.
its very important to line your first score line up with the permanent arrow on the face of the plate…the pointy plastic thing…line that up on your first score line, then score away the next three…it will work.
Love this. I can’t wait to get this stamp. How did you attach the star to the card???

hi, when you make a lovely dsp envelope, what is your suggestion for the address area on the front of the card?
I print most of my address labels, so a printed label is most effective. It might ugly-up the envelope a little bit, but the USPS still needs to be able to read the address.
Brian….how did you adhere the star to the card
I used a bunch of Dimensionals. One on each corner and then stacks of them in the center. There must be a better way, but it worked.
