My Sweater Weather Notebook

When our stamping friends arrived at the Regional event that Pam, Katy and I planned on October 5, we had nametags and swap bags waiting for them at the front door.  And Krispy Kreme donuts.  Katy also picked up some spiral bound steno books and covered them with various pages from Sweater Weather Designer Series Paper. Take-and-make notebooks from Atlanta Pals event

We asked everyone to take notes in their book and then take the books home to decorate and embellish.  While we had make-and-takes planned for the stampers, Katy’s notebook became a take-and-make.  Here’s mine:From My Heart, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Color Choices.  When selecting the colors for the focal point of my notebook, I stayed true to the colors featured in the Designer Series Paper: Chocolate Chip, Soft Sky and Crushed Curry.  How did I know which colors to use?  I simply reached for the Designer Series Paper Swatchbooks (I keep them in a bucket on my desk) and they told me what to do – the colors are printed right on the back.
  • Layering of the Central Image.  I was really happy with how the shapes fit together to make a perfectly layered image.  I started by stamping the image on Very Vanilla, Soft Sky and Crushed Curry.  I cropped the Very Vanilla piece with a Circles Collection framelit and snipped the rest of the images and glued them on top.  A couple of layers of card stock in circles and a Window Frames Collection Framelit, and you have a perfect focal point image for this notebook. From My Heart, Stampin' Up!, Brian King
  • A Grounded Image.  When I was finished with the central square on this design, I needed to ground the image a bit – who wants a square just floating in the middle of nowhere?  Instead of adding a horizontal strip under the square (that’s my instinctual inclination), I decided to cover some of the antiqued edge of the paper (this paper is browned a bit on the edges) with a vertical strip of Soft Sky on the left.  This grounds the square by giving it something to perch on.From My Heart, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

  1. I just love covering Steno Books! In this day and age of Apps I still find myself in need of a paper & pen!

  2. I totally agree with Patti, I carry a note pad and pen in my purse all the time, I don’t know much about APPS, to complicated stuff for me, I much prefer to take out my trusty pad and pen and write down what I need to remember later right when I remember it. If I had to take out one of those smart phones, turn it on, look for the app to write what I need, I probably would’ve forgotten it by the time I finally arrived at that particular destination on that thing. My little phone is ridiculously simple compared with what everyone else has this days, I only need it to keep in touch with my daughters and hubby. I love the way you embellished your note book Brian, I’m going to work on making mine pretty too.

    • Oh Maria – You sound exactly like me. The only thing I do with my cell phone is dial out or answer! I have no clue about texting, tweeting or any of that other stuff. I write everything on a pad I keep in my purse. So nice to hear I’m not the only “out of sinc” person around! LOL

      • Oh Grace, I’m also glad to hear I have company in this subject matter. My grandchildren kind of ask me to get one of those very fancy phones but, for the life of me, I just couldn’t learn to use them, I really don’t see the point. I’m very happy with my little phone, I did learn how to text but I didn’t know the phone had a feature that allows me to write the text without having to push each key many times to get the letter I wanted, until my daughter next door told me that, I laughed.
        really LOL!!!!!

  3. Well, I knew it would surface eventually ….most stampers LOVE office supplies and I don`t think I have seen that side of you . You are in my sandbox now with covering spiral bound notebooks . I do that a lot . I give them as gifts too . Great idea for your gathering . You gave me a couple of good pointers here today . Thank you for those and as you know I love love my Swatchbooks ! I pulled mine out for our club card swap . This is turning into a FUN FRIDAY ! Yay !

  4. Brian, your notepad decor is great! Love the trim and buttons, too!
I agree with Maria about still liking a notepad. I do have a smart-phone, but I still write lists in notepads or on post-it notes. They don’t have batteries! 🙂 Great gift ideas for sure, Sonny.

  5. What a fun idea! I love it! This would be great to do with a class (make mental note for future use)! TFS Brian and have a great weekend 🙂

  6. OOOH yes , love it Brian , I love to cover stuff and make it pretty !! You did a great job !!

  7. Super, super, super idea Brian and I love what you did to your pad! I’m always looking for things to make my friends that they will actually use and I will definitely be decorating steno books now. I bet that weekend was such a blast! You guys did a fantastic job and I bet your still excited that Mary showed up. WOW!

  8. Woo hoo what a great idea. I’m such a goof. Mi carry a spiral notebook around with me all day at work to keep all my notes from the meeting I attend all day long in one place. My notebook is going to look way cooler now, and what great advertising or gifts for my staff.
