Mojo Monday Friday

Fridays are sometimes all about Mondays. While I have been eyeing this week’s Mojo Monday sketch all week, the colorful tags from the Tag a Bag Accessory Kit have been taunting me from the edge of my craft table for weeks.  “Brian, don’t forget about us!  We challenge you to fit us into one of your cards….we’re still here, Brian!”  They can be really persistent – especially the Crushed Curry, horizontal striped tag.  “What’s the matter, Brian?  Are you scared?”  I couldn’t wait to fit him into one of my cards – mostly just to hush him up.  The Mojo Monday sketch inspired me to do just that.  Here’s my card:

And here’s the sketch that inspired me:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Totally Nautical, Dude!  As you read in my introductory paragraph, this striped tag has been challenging me to use him.  While Crushed Curry might not be a “nautical” color, the bold, horizontal stripes on this tag are certainly reminiscent of boat flags.  That’s what made me reach for my Settin’ Sail stamp set.  So glad I did.  The delicate chevrons in the banner DSP, the bold stripes in the tag and the boat and lighthouse images really set a nautical mood, dude.
  • Color Combination.  I was first trying to use the tag that has small Bermuda Bay stripes on it.  I reached for my Color Coach to find that Bermuda Bay pairs well with Crushed Curry.  I agree.  I also saw that its Dynamic Duo partner (a color that’s good for a monochromatic scheme) is Pool Party.  That’s how the [might I say GORGEOUS!] combination of Bermuda Bay, Pool Party and Crushed Curry came to be.  I’ve never seen it used (that I can recall), and I’m more than happy with how it turned out.
  • Balance.  It’s really hard to define balance in a card.  Once I had the tag and circles and banner positioned, the card needed something else.  Maybe it was because my banner (although thick and long) was pale compared to the other components), but the card was very heavy toward the center and bottom, left.  A simple fix?  I added three Bermuda Candy Dots to the top, right of the card (layered on the banner).  The added weight to the top corner created the balance I needed.  Peace was restored to the Fungeon.  🙂

  5. No kidding! Pool Party with Bermuda Bay & Crushed Curry you’ve got a winner here! Love this striped tag! In the 70’s (way before your time) we wore this wide stripe Polo Shirt all the time. Bold colors in Navy, or Red, Green and Yellow just like this. Love the theme today! -Don’t recognize the stamp set at all, I’m with Sonny, it escaped me too.

  6. Love the bright and Summer like colors of your card and, with the sail boat and light house images, really sends a warm feeling, in the middle of this cold weather, my way. Thanks for sharing.

Imagine my schock when I initially thought you had used non SU stamps! How many times have I looked through the catalog and overlooked this set?
Thank you for a great take on the layout, refreshing color choices and the perfect reason to look through my catalog slowly and with unusual deliberation…Lol

  13. This set is one of Stampin’ Up!’s exclusive photopolymer stamp sets. As of now, there are no photopolymer sets included in the catalogs. I’m sure that will change soon. This is a great set that was released a little under the radar. 🙂

  14. Great card and entertaining post! It makes me crazy when my stampin’ stuff talks to me. I thought I was the only one!

  15. Absolutely LOVE the color combo. So cheerful, so bright, so clean looking. I wish my supplies would call to me…………perhaps I’d use more of them instead of letting them sit on the shelf.
Fantastic card, as always, Brian. It sure gave me my Friday morning smile!

  19. Very nice card, Brian! Love it!

  20. First, I love this card. It’s perfect. Secondly, I love that you called the tag a “him” because I call everything a him. My stampers ask why I call every object a him- it throws them off a bit!
