Something Worth Celebrating

There’s something really worth celebrating today…Sonny Peterson’s birthday. I am not always good at remembering birthdays – this is terrible for an avid card maker. A couple of months ago, I bragged that I wrote a bunch of birthdays in my calendar (“Yay, Brian!”).  But I have yet to flip the calendar page over to change the month (“Boo, Brian!”).  No matter because Sonny has ways of reminding me that her birthday is coming…:)  Here’s Sonny’s birthday card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Deciding Between White and Vanilla.  When selecting Designer Series Paper for the background of a card, it’s important to check the colors.  It’s super-important to define whether Very Vanilla or Whisper White are the base of the DSP – is there anything more embarrassing than a white panel on a vanilla background?  Well, this DSP gives me an option.  Even though Birthday Basics features Very Vanilla, the background of this page is Bermuda Bay.  Woo hoo!  A choice.  I chose Whisper White.
  • Y-O-U.  It can be difficult to line up tiny letters on the face of a card.  They’re just so tiny!  Here’s an easier way to do it – stamp the letters and then punch them out.  I punched each of the letters with the large shape of the Ticket Duo punch.  I then fed the punched image back through the punch, creating a square for each.
  • Balance.  After the sentiment and the three letters were placed, I needed an embellishment in the top, left corner of the card.  I tried several different options before deciding a couple of punches from Boho Blossoms add the right balance of weight and femininity.  I think Sonny will like the flowers.

Stamp sets:  Remembering Your Birthday, ABC-123 Sketch Alphabet & Numbers  Papers:  Raspberry Ripple, Crisp Cantaloupe, Whisper White, Birthday Basics Designer Series Paper  Accessories:  3/16″ Corner punch, Boho Blossoms punch, Basic Jewel Pearls, Ticket Duo punch

Happy birthday, Sonny!

  14. Really liking the Crisp Cantaloupe with the Raspberry Ripple. It’s visually happy without being treacly sweet. Hm. Cantaloupe and Raspberry. Wonder if the flavors would complement each other as well as the colors.

  15. Brian, I am the same way with birthdays! They are all in my calendar… I just have to remember to look at it! Perhaps we need a deliberate reminder on the last Saturday of each month to check the next month’s birthdays… maybe we can make a new years resolution and stay on top of it next year 🙂
