A Sweet Card for The Paper Players and a Restocked Clearance Rack

When The Paper Players color challenge was revealed on Sunday, I knew I would enjoy an afternoon in The Fungeon.  And, boy, did I?!  This week’s colors are Pink Pirouette, Old Olive and Raspberry Ripple.  Who doesn’t love a combination of pink and green?  While the option was available for me to go bright and bold (I felt really drawn to the bold and gorgeous Raspberry Ripple), I opted to keep this card soft and pretty, accenting Pink Pirouette and Old Olive.  Here’s my project:

And here’s Anne Marie Hile’s challenge banner:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Coloring on Stamps.  The central image is from Tag It, an all-sentiment stamp set that coordinates with the Chalktalk Framelits (this image coordinates with the large tag framelit, but I chose to showcase it in an oval).  I used my Stampin’ Write Markers to carefully color the images on the stamp with the paint brush tip.  [Time for a DID YOU KNOW – did you know that the markers are marked with a thin stripe close to the cap of the thin tip and a wide stripe close the the cap of the paint brush tip?  If not, check it out!]  I find that you can’t swipe over the image too many times or the ink will “glob” up and create a mess.A couple of swipes in the same direction willd it!  The final colored image won’t always be as clean as a final stamped image, but you have to be willing to let go a bit.
  • A Sweet Frame.  There are a million ways I could have showcased this adorable image.  I like the oval shape for this image, and the Labels Collection Framelits perfectly frame the ovals.  With the polka dot paper in the background, this looks like a sweet picture that’s framed on a young girl’s wall, don’t you think?
  • A Little Sponging.  A little sponging never hurt anyone, right?  I never glue down images on a card until I’ve given everything my final approval – I have to fill out the Final Approval Form and submit it to the the gluing station on the other side of the Fungeon.  After I process the paperwork, I begin to add adhesive to the final card.  Maybe it’s not that formal, but I think you know what I mean.  As I looked at all the final pieces, I realized I was missing something.  I decided to add a small sponging of Raspberry Ripple to the edges of the oval – happy with this addition.  For consistency, I also sponged the outside of the polka dot paper.

Stamp Sets:  Tag It  Inks:  Pink Pirouette, Raspberry Ripple, Stampin’ Write Markers (Pink Pirouette, Raspberry Ripple, Basic Black)  Papers:  Old Olive, Whisper White, Subtles Designer Series Paper Stack (Pink Pirouette)  Accessories:  Oval Collection Framelits, Labels Collection Framelits, Stampin’ Dimensionals, Stampin’ Sponge

  1. Ah! this lizard can be for a girl!! Thanks for turning on that light bulb! Who would think!
Fabulous color pallet and love the “sponging”!

  2. I am definitely a fan of this color pallet … if I remember correctly, my mom put up pink and green wallpaper in our bathroom in the ’70’s and I was hooked “way back then”.
Great focal image, Brian. Good little hints or reminders embedded in your post today as well. I especially like the Final Approval Form and the “gluing station” comments. Humorous for sure, but so true to make sure everything is just as you want it … 😉
By the way, I definitely got my Clearance Rack order in before 6 AM CST … thank you for the extra reminder this morning!

  3. I love this color combination, it’s very Spring like, very soft too, and that adorable little lizard, just to cute. You are right, a little sponging is always great, it gives the sponged paper some definition and it just looks awesome.

  4. I love pink and green . I love polka dots . I love this card . Thank you for the tip about coloring stamps with markers …one direction (gee haven`t I heard that name somewhere?) and I love the ovals but, sometimes they need a little something for punch and this Window Framelit does it !
Yes, I did my Clearance shopping EARLY ! Some good prices on a lot of things !

  5. I’m obssessed with sponging on the edges of my cards and accents. I think it just adds the perfect touch to just about any card. I love that you did that with this sweet card. 🙂

And I can totally see you processing your approval forms for final adhesion of your layout. Your commentary made me giggle this morning (which is good b/c it is cold and dreary outside).

    Hugs!

  6. This card is adorable. Just the perfect amount of each color! Perfect for the young and young at heart, too.
Will the Final Approval Form be available to download later today? Lol.

  7. Why are there so many products in the clearance rack that are not marked down at all?

    • My guess is there’s a glitch in the system that will be fixed really soon. Demonstrator Support is open, and I am sure they are fielding a lot of questions.

  8. WOW Brian, had to go look at my markers and sure enough…..the stripes were there to keep me from having to double ck every time! great news…..thanks!! and the card is awesome too.

  9. What a sweet card for a little (or big) girl! Great use of the colors, and the little bit of sponging is the perfect touch. Thanks for “Playing” 🙂

  10. Fabulous little girl card. I have several great, great nieces now and one of them happens to believe pink is the only color acceptable to the world. LOL I’ve gotten a late start this morning but will be checking the bargains once I finish telling you that I love this card.

  11. Great use of the colors and the sponging, Brian. The creature on this stamp has always puzzled me (I can’t figure out what it’s supposed to be), so I avoid using it. However, your card makes me comfortable with him(?)! The cut out balloons are the best touch for dimension. Beautiful for a girl…love the forms you have to fill out in your Fungeon! We had a pink and green bathroom in our 50’s house too. Nancy B

  12. Adorable, Brian! What girl can’t resist a little lizard? Thanks for sharing with The Paper Players!

  13. Aww, so cute! I love pink & green. Btw, I just placed a clearance blitz order. Things were disappearing before my eyes before I could even add them to my cart! Got some great deals, though, so excited!

  14. OOOH Brian so sweet of a card !! Colors love them ,
    Hugs and love

  15. What a fun, cute card….that little lizard looks good done in AM’s colors! Thanks for sharing this with us at the Paper Players this week!

  16. That’ awesome that you have an approval process before gluing! LOL 🙂 Actually though, it’s a great tip that I learned from you. Too often I’ve made cards and wished I waited to adhere pieces together. Now, I wait until I am sure I like the finished project before gluing!
