You Mean the World to Me

Today, I’m excited to share a quick-and-easy AND fun-to-make card I made with one of Stampin’ Up!’s new Valentine’s Day stamp sets, Love You More (available to order now).  Before I share the card, though, I want to thank Sandy Mathis for selecting my White-on-White card as this week’s Headliner at The Paper Players.  Woo hoo!  There were so many gorgeous white-on-white cards this week, and I am truly honored to have been selected as her favorite.  If you missed my card when I shared it earlier this week, click here

Now that we got that out of the way…here’s my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Color Selection.  For the background stripes in the background of this card, I chose three soft and beautiful colors – Pool Party, Pistachio Pudding and Crisp Cantaloupe.  I chose Wild Wasabi for the base of the card and the image in the center of the card for one reason – I needed a color dark enough to allow the image to be seen on the front panel.  Pointer:  Crisp Cantaloupe is a perfect accent for a Valentine’s Day card for a boy because it’s a nod to pink without being pink.
  • Creating a striped background.  To create this background of striped card stock, I cut a piece of cardstock the size I wanted.  I then cut strips of card stock (3/4″ width each), tucking each strip tightly next to the other.  Rather than put the glue on the back of the strips, I added glue directly to the card stock base (saves having glue all over your workspace).  After each strip was added, I flipped the base over and snipped off the overhanging pieces.
  • Bordered in White.  I really enjoy a Whisper White border around pieces of colored card stock.  Not only did I include a small border around the striped centerpiece, but I added a small border around the sentiment (that’s already bordered with Wild Wasabi).  I just think the simple border makes the rest of the card pop.

  1. I *love* this; you’re spot on, crisp cantaloupe is the perfect man pink.

  2. Another Wow card Brian! Thank you for the instructions on how you made the background! And I have to agree, the WW border really makes this pop.

  3. I absolutely love how you made the background Brian, the colors are fabulous, thanks so much on the directions on how to make it. Really awesome. Have a great Sunday and I hope you are feeling again at 100%.

  4. Fab, fab card Brian. I was never a fan of stripes but the last few cards you have showcased with the stripes has me thinking that is something I really need to try to incorporate. I love the look but have a habit of staying within the box and playing “safe”. Certainly I can’t be so stuck in my ways that I can’t get myself to put some stripes into my card making! Just a beautiful card Brian and yes, you are the King of Artistry!

Still icing here in Maine and will continue through the day and into the evening. Crossing our fingers that we don’t lose electricity but we are prepared if we do. I do have to admit that the world looks amazing when covered with ice. I guess there is beauty in everything if you take the time to look for it.

  5. As always beautiful!
