Love in Three Vases

Wow!  I am having such an amazing time at Stampin’ Up!’s Leadership Conference in Houston, Texas.  It’s so good to catch up with my friends from all over and to meet new people.  Just this morning, I met a woman who…wait.  I’m not there yet.  As this post goes live, I will be waking up to get ready for the trip to the airport.  All those things I said, though, are expectations of things I will be experiencing today.  In fact, my entire blog is on auto-pilot this week (unless something completely mind-blowing happens, all the content you see was written before I left for Houston).

I have a special treat for you today.  I was playing around with several shapes and colors and developed a sweet card that embodies “simple” and “sweet” (at least I think so).  I took some risks here, and I hope you appreciate them.  Here’s my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

• A Brown Base.  It was quite a risk to build a lovely Valentine’s card where the base is all-brown.  There’s a reason I did it, and there’s a reason it works.  The focus of this card should be the three heart flowers that are growing out of these vases.  To ensure the eye went straight to the flowers, I made sure that no other colors would detract from the beautiful Crisp Cantaloupe by making almost everything else brown.  The brown layers (outside-in) are Baked Brown Sugar, Crumb Cake and Sahara Sand.  The gradation of the browns (they get lighter as you move inward) also draws the eye in.
• Soft and Love-ly Flowers.  These flowers were born out of snips and clips and punches.  The vase is stamped from Bright Blossoms and snipped out. The Pistachio Pudding stems are punched with the Bird Builder punch (I use this punch a lot for this branch of leaves – if you don’t have it, consider it).  I flipped one of the stems over to allow the flowers to point in different directions.  The hearts are punched from the Small Heart punch and simply placed on the top leaf of the punched stem.  Easy as can be with a super-cute effect.
• Best of Love Stamp Set.  While there are no new Best of 25 Years sets in 2014, all twelve of the 2013 sets are still available for sale.  It’s time to think about Valentine’s Day, and this Best of Love Stamp Set is PERFECT for serious cards or fun cards, old cards or young cards.  If you don’t yet have this set, please take another look.
