Much Love for the Pals Paper Arts

I always love to share my design team projects from the Pals Paper Arts challenges.  This week’s color challenge consists of a gorgeous pairing of two colors and neutral that work beautifully together – Real Red, Soft Sky and Whisper White.  The colors work well because they contrast one another – Real Red is so bright and bold, while Soft Sky is soft and subtle.  Together, they are beautiful.  Here’s my card:Hearts a Flutter, Hip Notes, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PPA187

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • An extended banner.  The banner that extends horizontally across this card front is cropped from the Banners Framelit Dies, but the dies are not this long.  Because I knew I wanted to mount this collection of circles as the centerpiece of this card, I layered two red banners and two white banners to give the illusion of one large, long banner.Creating an extended banner, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingCreating an extended banner, Stampin' Up! • Grounding an Image with Candy Dots.  While I have done it before, I typically like to ensure that images (like banners) are grounded – that they are attached to something somewhere.  If you flip back to my post from this past Monday (A Clean Slate for the Paper Players), you’ll see that I broke my own rule and let that banner just hang out in the middle of the card.  In today’s card, though, I attached the banner to the edge of the card front and added three Soft Sky Candy Dots to give the appearance that the banner is fastened to the edge of this panel.
  • I Totally Goofed.  If you look closely at the card, you’ll see the thin Real Red border around the central piece of the card.  Why did I include that here?  After I glued down the Soft Sky base, I realized it was crooked – not just slanted a little – it was crooked.   I pulled out my table top cutter and hacked off the edges of the red base, cutting really close to the Soft Sky border but leaving enough of an edge for interest.  I popped all of that on Stampin’ Dimensionals and re-adhered it to another Real Red card base.  I like the additional layer my boo-boo caused.

  13. Just beautiful, Brian, as always. I do enjoy hearing about how errors are fixed, as I goof quite often. Sometimes I start over, but I think the salvage is a challenge in itself and a worthwhile exercise. As you pointed out, we can be quite happy with the result of the modification. Have fun at leadership!
