I use a lot of Stampin’ Dimensionals. I use my Big Shot all the time. I couldn’t make a card without adhesive. At the end of the day, though, it’s Stampin’ Up!’s Designer Series Paper collections that excite me the most. When a new catalog is released, I just can’t wait to get my hands on that paper. The moment I saw this week’s sketch from Freshly Made Sketches, I knew which page of Watercolor Wonder Designer Series Paper I’d be using. Here’s my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- Layering the Banners. The Island Indigo banner is cropped with the largest banner in the collection of new Banner Framelits. The banners in the collection can be layered with a relatively thick border between them. To create the Smoky Slate banner, which is only slightly thinner than the outside layer. I simply cropped the two banners with the same framelit and then trimmed a little off each side and the top. I lined up each edge of each side along the edge of the Thin cutting Mat in my Stampin’ Trimmer. The angle of the banner tip stays the same. Woo hoo! You can easily trim the top of the trimmed banner to the size needed. I added a few wraps of Island Indigo Baker’s Twine to ground the banner a bit and add a soft texture to the card.
- Layering the Sentiment. This sentiment takes some serious layering – five layers on the sentiment alone, but I don’t think the layering gets too busy. From the outside in, I used The Floral Frames Collection Framelits, 1-1/2″ Circle punch, Circles Collection Framelit, Circles Collection Framelit, 1-3/4″ Circle punch. The sentiment is from You’re Lovely, one of the amazing Sale-a-bration freebies this year. The sentiment is designed to coordinate with the Deco Labels Collection Framelits, but the circle is easily trimmed right out.
- Color Balance. This Designer Series Paper is composed of Island Indigo, Gumball Green and Smoky Slate flowers. With all the dark and soft shades, the blue colors almost look Pacific Point, but they are Island Indigo. I cropped banners and sentiment layers and background layers in every combination of these colors. Because I love Island Indigo so much (I’d have to say it’s my favorite color), I knew I had to incorporate this color. Smoky Slate was my supporting color because every combination I tried with Gumball Green was overpowering. The regal Island Indigo and the neutral Smoky Slate paired well with this DSP, while the bright Gumball Green was just too bright.

Very attractive! My favorite is the knotted bakers twine wrapped around these lovely banners. I’ve come to speed read many posts and looked a second time for it’s tutorial! Unless I’m needing another set of eyes I’ve missed it. I like it!
Glad you like it, Patti! I simply wrapped the twine around the banner three times and taped it on the back. I spaced out the twine pieces with my fingernail along the edges of the banner and then tied a knot around the center of all three pieces with another piece of twine. I didn’t want a lot of hanging thread, so I snipped the ends close to the knot.
I agree with Patti, Brian. The knotted twine is my favorite part. Thanks for the extra tip.
I love the color combination – and the new watercolor DSP is a winner! Using a knot on your twine keeping it as a subtle addition to the card – just right! It’s like the other day when you added the Candy Dots more for texture than as a color addition. The twine has the same effect. Thanks, again, Brian.
This is beautiful! I love the layers for the focal image, I love the background paper, I love the sketch, but my favorite is also the knotted twine.

I am in full agreement with the others. It would have still been a beautiful card, but the knotted twine gave it the extra touch of magic that only you would add. The layered sentiment was great too.

That is the most fantastic DSP. I really had no interest in it until I saw your card today. You can bet it will be on my next order. The twine with the knot was a great addition to this car but I think the star of the card is the way you used that DSP. The colors are so enticing and your layering just boggles my mind. Absolutely breathtaking.
