Welcome to Simple Saturday! For the past several weeks I’ve been sharing super-simple cards on Saturdays. Today is no exception.
I’ve been dreaming about today’s card for quite some time, and today just feels like the right time to share it. There’s not a thing from the Occasions Catalog or from Sale-a-Bration – it’s just a cute (if I don’t say so myself – which I did just say, so…) and simple Valentine card. Here it is:
Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- Inspiration. Inspiration is everywhere – it can be found in nature, in online card challenges or in your pocket. The shape of a smartphone is really easy to reproduce – and fun to make. The inspiration for this card started with the fun sentiment from the Label Card Thinlits Die. I wanted to make a fun Valentine with this modern, abridged version of an actual emotion. 🙂 Modern, fun. - Pattern/No Pattern. I was so happy when I had the phone completed and hadn’t really given much thought to the rest of the card. Ooooh! The Strawberry Slush heart would pair perfectly with the modern patterns in Kaleidoscope Designer Series Paper, right? Not right. Although these patterns are perfect for a bold, fun card, they only took away from the simple, fun phone I had created. Some other time, Kaleidoscope. Today is not your day.
- Dimensions. To create the correct proportions of the phone on this card, I grabbed a ruler and my phone. Smart thinking, huh? You, sometimes I really think through this stuff. The black phone is 2-1/4″ x 4-1/2″, and the silver border is just 1/8″ larger on all sides. Both of these layers are rounded with a 3/16″ Corner Rounder. The Soft Sky screen of the phone is 2″ x 3″. This phone is easy to reproduce, and you can make it cute in SO many ways.
