Simple Saturday: Dot, Dot, Heart

Today is Saturday, and what a week it has been!  While today’s card is fitting for a Simple Saturday post (the concept is super-simple), the layout of these cards can be a little tricky.  Don’t worry, though, because I’m going to show you some tips that will help you to recreate it (if you so choose – is it wrong for me to assume you want to recreate this project?).  Without any further ado, here’s my project – a couple of 3″ x 3″ Valentine cards :

Stampin' Up!, Brian King

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Color Flip.  Would you agree that one of these cards is perfect for a guy, while the other is perfect for a girl?  Both cards use the exact same colors – Night of Navy, Strawberry Slush and Pink Pirouette.  With a simple switcheroo of the colors, though, the entire feel of the card changes.
  • Lining it All Up.  If you are going to place items in a grid, it’s important to make sure they line up nicely on the card front.  While I could make a light lines with a pencil on the front of the card that could be erased afterward, I chose to create the grid on the back of the cardstock and then marked the crosspoints by punching holes at those points.  I then flipped over the cardstock and centered the circles and heart over the holes.  How easy is that?Stampin' Up!, Brian KingStampin' Up!, Brian King
  • No Sentiment Needed.  This card does not include a sentiment.  In general, I think a card should have a sentiment.  In some cases, though, a sentiment would distract from the overall design of the card.  I don’t think this card needs a sentiment, so I’m happy to let the dots and hearts speak for themselves.

Papers:  Night of Navy, Strawberry Slush, Pink Pirouette  Accessories:  Small Heart punch, Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack (Circle), Stampin’ Dimensionals
