Three Things I Like…Debbie Dean

It’s been a while since I shared a “Three Things I Like…” post, so this one’s been a long time coming.  It’s so fun for me to share other people’s cards with you and to share why I like their card so much.  Here’s how this works:

  • I find a card I absolutely love.
  • I share the card with you.
  • I share three things I like about the card and its design.

That’s right – I limit myself to just three things I like – and that can be really hard sometimes.  Today’s “Three Things I Like…” card was created by Debbie Dean, a fellow Pal, who recently had a little reason to thank me but thanked me in a very big way.  During my two-hour workshop on Sunday, this is the only card I passed around to share with the attendees.  Here’s Debbie’s card:

Simply Celebrate, Hardwood, Stampin' Up!, by Debbie Dean

Three Things I Like About This Card:

  • Texture.  You already know I’m a fool for some great texture, right?  Well, this card’s got it all.  For the brown centerpiece on this card, Debbie used a piece of Baked Brown Sugar Core’dinations Cardstock.  She not only stamped it with the Hardwood background stamp (giving it a faux texture), but she also ran the piece of cardstock through the Big Shot with a Woodgrain Textured Impression Embossing Folder.  It seems as though she ran it through on a different tab to give it a delicate impression – definitely not the deep impression I’m accustomed to seeing with this folder.  And let’s not forget the pointed edges of the Starburst Framelit Die at the center of this card.
  • Colors.  I think I can find any reason to love any combination of colors.  During Fall, I long for the bright colors of Spring.  After all the bright and romantic colors of Spring and Valentine’s Day, I was immediately drawn to the browns in Debbie’s card.  Sure, the card is made with Early Espresso and Baked Brown Sugar, but the center coverage of Very Vanilla keeps the entire card bright and clean.
  • Clean and Vintage.  Debbie describes her cardmaking aesthetic as “vintage” so she admitted to me it was difficult to make this clean card for me.  She used the Stampin’ Distress Tool to “rough up” the edges of the white cardstock border.  I love how it adds such a beautiful roughness to an otherwise clean-as-whistle card.  With its distressed edges, this card is crisp as can be.

Yay!  I did it!  I successfully limited my “I Likes” to just three things.  Just three – and I didn’t even mention how crisp the sentiment is stamped in Early Espresso embossing powder.  And I didn’t mention how much I love that she layered the Starburst Framelit with a Circle Framelit (instead of adding another Starburst).  And I didn’t point out that the layers are so perfectly balanced.

Stamp sets:  Simply Celebrate, Hardwood  Papers:  Early Espresso, Very Vanilla, Baked Brown Sugar Core’dinations Cardstock  Inks:  Early Espresso  Accessories:  Early Espresso Stampin’ Emboss Powder, Starburst Framelit Dies, Circles Collection Framelits, Woodgrain Textured Impressions Embossing Folder, Stampin’ Distress Tool, Stampin’ Dimensionals

  1. For a minute I thought you made it! Well Debbie, you did a lovely job making a Thank You card to Brian that he would really enjoy. I see it’s right up his alley! Nicely done!!

  2. mmm lovely. The Hardwood stamp is on my shopping list already!! 🙂

  3. Oh how creative using both the stamp and embossing folder to accomplish the woodgrain with texture and on textured card stock besides! Such a great card, Debbie!
Thanks so much for sharing it with us, Brian!

    • Agreed! I really like that the embossing is not heavy. She gave the already-textured paper some shape without being too obvious about it. So happy to share, Suzie!

  4. Great card! That background stamp is on my wish list!!

  5. Well done ,Debbie ! I think this is a Brian card look-a-like . I really like your choices of textures and colors . That Hardwood background stamp and folder together are great . I agree with Brian on your card being a nice break from the reds and pinks of Valentine cards .

  6. I love this background stamp and with the added texture of the Wood Grain EF, it’s a winner. Soothing break from the rush of Valentine’s reds and pinks. Nicely done Debbie.

  7. Wonderful Debbie! Like that you did some distressing. It follows through with the woodgrain and hardwood giving it a rustic but clean look.

    • I love the distressing, too. That’s why I passed it around during my Sunday event – to showcase how effective that Stampin’ Distress Tool can be. The card is distressed but still very crisp and clean.

  8. I absolutely love everything about Debbie’s card! I agree with Patti because it reflects your style of card making, which I love as well! 🙂

  9. Great looking card Debbie! Thanks for your positive comments Brian! I am adding the woodgrain background stamp to my wish list, and the framelits!! Great job!

  10. Debbie’s card has to be one of the most masculine cards I have ever seen. One could use it for any occasion like a birthday, anniversary, for-no-reason, I love you card. It just oozes masculinity and I love it. Once in a while I slip the hubs a card for no reason at all except to let him know that after all these years he is still my special Knight in Shining Armor. I hope Debbie doesn’t mind if I CASE this one for a special card for hubby. Thanks for sharing Brian.

  11. It does look like a card you would make Brian…you’ve mastered the masculine card, but looks like Debbie has too. Thanks for your great advice on my masculine card yesterday. It was so exciting to have you comment on my little blog! If you have time, check back and see how it all turned out! : )

  12. Brian, thank you so much for featuring my card to you on your blog today. It is truly an honor and came as such a surprise, I still can’t believe it! It was so much fun creating it… to send to you and it makes my heart smile to know you liked it. Just know it was especially created just for “YOU!”
I, also, want to extend my heartfelt thanks for the sweet comments from everyone here, you’re all so kind, and it means so much to me.

Thanks again, Brian. You know you’re my must see blog visit everyday, a true inspiration for us all. Stampin’ hugs, big hugs to you all!
