Starburst Sayings for The Pals Paper Arts

How many ways can you say “thank you”?  If you are a verbal communicator, you might simply say “thanks!”  If you are an active communicator, you might offer a hug.  If you are a paper crafter, you would definitely make a gorgeous card.  If you are a cat, you would just pretend to be upset and walk away.

Today, I am sharing a card I made with this week’s sketch from The Pals Paper Arts.  This sketch is super-clean and super-simple, but that doesn’t mean is has to be super-boring.  Here’s my card:

Starburst Sayings, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PPA193 And here’s the sketch, designed by my good friend Nicole Watt:PPA193Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Threes.  As a member of the Design Team for The Pals Paper Arts, I get a peek at the future challenges.  While I’m always happy to sit down and create, I was particularly excited about this sketch.  Why?  You already know I love the calm and peace that comes with threes, right?  Well, that’s what immediately struck me about this sketch.  I also loved the simplicity of the rest of the card.  I altered the middle circle in the trilogy to include a larger circle base and to house the sentiment.  The top and bottom circles are just fun eye-candy.
  • Luscious Paper.  Do you recognize this paper?  I’ll give you a hint:  it’s not Sweet Sorbet Designer Series Paper, one of the freebies during Sale-a-Bration 2014.  Here’s a closer look at the shine that isn’t captured in the photograph above.  Good as Gold Card Kit, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingStill guessing?  As the background for this card, I used a half of one of the notecards from Good as Gold, an awesome card kit that’s part of Sale-a-Bration 2014.  Woo hoo!
  • Candy Dots.  The addition of Basic Black Candy Dots to the centers of the two outside circles does two important things – it grounds the images, giving them the appearance that they “bradded” into place on the focal panel.  The shape also references the dots in the paper – converting the 2-dimensional dots on the paper into real-life, 3-D dots.  Magic!

Island Indigo, Sahara Sand, Jet Black Stazon, Starburst Sayings (with the matching framelets!) AND one of the card fronts from Good as Gold??!!! Yippee-doodle-Dee-da-Hip-Hip-hooray!!! (Insert back flip here) You knocked this one out if the park Brian!!! 🙂

  2. Fabulous Sketch! And I love the scale of your colored panels much smaller than the crumb cake card base! Adds even more wow to the eye! Oh I love threes. One is such a lonely number! So rich here in black accents..Pinning!

  3. This is an “eye catcher” card . I like polka dots and the sprinkling of gold dots make this card kit inviting to me . But the little black Starbursts add an extra bit of drama without being overwhelming . Yay for “threes” . !!

  4. Fun and colorful card this morning Brian, the dots on the DSP give out a bit of an optical illusion and give the starburst images some movement too. Great interpretation of a great sketch.

  5. Hi Brian,
You can never say “Thank You” enough. This card is great. Love everything about it . . . the layers, the circles and the sentiment. I want to take this time to say “Thank You” again for inspiring me. You made me feel so confident to participate in one of your card swaps. That was it . . . I felt so good to be included in this swap, that my cards were “swap-able” ! Thanks a bunch. 🙂

  6. Just another great tip……..using the top half of a notecard. The little starbursts remind me of gears going round and round. Very hypnotizing…….but in a very good way. Very fun card.

  7. Sahara Sand is the perfect neutral here! Love how this turned out!

  8. Fun card Brian. Love that dap and love the Sahara Sand with it,

  9. Such a cute re-purposing of that kit! You and Jen Lane make me need the Starburst bundle, LOL!
Thanks for a few good laughs this morning, too, always welcomed on a drizzly day!

  10. Wasn’t the card base in Good as Gold set a nice surprise? Cute card!

  11. Hi Brian:

The Starburst framelits have become my “go to” dies. They are so versatile and look how they “prettied up” the circles. Great card and fab colors. Stop picking on Bandit or I will have to scold you! LOL

  12. Brian, your layering on this card makes it so awesome!

  13. Let’s hear it for the dots! Great job Brian.

  14. ❤️ this card, Brian! A real “eye catcher”!
