Sweet Girl for Patricia and Mojo Monday

Patricia is having a baby girl!  Woo hoo!  Over thirteen years in our Accounting Department, I’ve seen many of team members at work having babies – all boys.  Boys, boys, boys!  When Kim announced she was having twins last Fall, I was excited – one boy, one girl.  I could play with pinks for a change (you can see Kim’s card here).  When Patricia announced that she was having a girl, though, I was excited!  I could go all-out with flowers and pinks.  Here’s the card I made to celebrate Patricia’s baby girl:

Patricia’s baby card was inspired by this week’s Mojo Monday sketch:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Build a Frame.  When I saw this sketch, I immediately saw the square piece on the card as a frame.  I cropped the square with my paper trimmer and added the square framelit to the center of the square.  I wanted to avoid the slight indention that is created when the framelit is positioned in the center of a piece of cardstock.  I changed out the cutting plates, thinking that would solve it.  In the end, I flipped over the piece – voila!  No indentions.  Woo hoo!
  • White Embossing.  I really love pops of white and white space.  Why does that make me so happy?  I am in love with these little embossed booties.  I tried to stamp them in Crisp Cantaloupe on Whisper White, but the embossed image is just so delicate.  It’s exactly what I wanted.Baby We've Grown, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, MOJO335
  • Color Control.  Are you familiar with the patterns in Sweet Sorbet Designer Series Paper?  This is the third baby card I’ve tried to make with the gorgeous striped paper in that pack.  In the end, the stripes of Summer Starfruit, Pool Party and Sahara Sand offset the Crisp Cantaloupe and Pistachio Pudding stripes too much.  I couldn’t get the look I wanted.  Since this is a girly baby card, I flipped over to the beautiful floral pattern.  When I set this piece down, I was left with a huge blob of Pool Party flowers on the bottom, left edge.  Aaaah!  I flipped the panel upside down so the Pool Party flowers are now covered by the square panel.  Color control.  Woo hoo!

  1. First of all, congratulations to Patricia on having a baby girl! Secondly, congratulations, Brian, for such a pretty card! I’ve loved these baby shoes, too. Thank you for the “hint” about this stamp image and the white craft ink! I love the Crisp Cantaloupe and Pistachio Pudding color choices you made for a baby girl card. I would have gone with tradition pink and looked for “baby-like” DSP or stamps … hmmm, design security for you, Brian! 😉 I am off to “pin” this card for sure! 🙂

So very sweet, all kinds of girly, and delicately divine Brian!! Your selection of colors and careful trimming, flipping, and rotating of the DSP and cardstock combine to equal perfection!!! 🙂 Patricia and her partner are sure to go ga-ga over your beautiful card and matching envelope!!!

  3. Love, Love, Love this sweet baby girl card!! Those tiny, adorable shoes are just perfect for this occasion, your friend Patricia will treasure this card for always.
I love how you made that pretty frame, Crisp Cantaloupe and Pistachio Pudding are a winner combination for a baby girl card, they are so soft and sweet and white embossing those little shoes really made them pop.
    Thank you for sharing.

  4. Your choice of colors are a nice change from using the traditional pinks . This card is so girly, I love it! Good tip on how you turned and twisted to get the DSP exactly how you wanted it. Better then cutting and snipping out the piece, that way you don’t waste any of the precious paper. Congratulations Patricia.

  5. Sweet ! Precious ! Cute ! A great card for “Mommy To Be “. This card minus the little shoes would be a good card for a few other feminine events . Wonder what a picture in that frame would look like ? I like this sketch and your version of it.
Congratulations Patricia ! Oh, the clothes you can buy for a girl (grin)

  6. Looks like a picture of the baby could be slipped right into the “frame”! Sweet!

    • Dawn, the picture frame was the first thing I thought about when I saw this card. Brian, you may be more talented and clever than we already think you are. Just may sure the new baby has a matching outfit.

  7. I am in love with this stamp set. Bought it in my very first order. You know why I think the embossing of the booties is so sweet? The image is something that makes me want to touch them, and when embossed, instant love! Great job with the sketch, Brian!

  8. Ahh!! Yes, the clothes, the curls, ribbons and bows, sugar and spice and everything oh so nice!!

  9. Ooh, this is adorable Brian! Love those cute little baby shoes and the yummy pastel colors.

  10. Cute card for this lucky baby!
Is “blob” a SU technical term?

  11. I LOVE your card Brian!! I love the layout, the colors, and the stamp set!! I also remember the SWEET BABY card you did using the little bunny rabbit from this particular stamp set! Great job as always Brian! 🙂

  12. Ca-Yoot! You have outdone yourself going all “girly”!
