Thinking of You with Happy Watercolor

I’ve been playing with a lot of great colors this week, but sometimes I have to just step away from pinks and greens and yellows and oranges to just enjoy the beauty of a gorgeous image.  Today, I’m sharing a card I made with just three colors (all neutrals):  Sahara Sand, Basic Black and Whisper White.  AND it’s a floral card.  Here it is:

  • Snippa-Doodle-Doo.  I just love the look of white against a neutral background.  While I especially like pops of white against browns, I really like how it pops against this Sahara Sand.  I simply stamped the floral image with Jet Black StazOn on Sahara Sand and then again on Whisper White.  I then snipped away at the gentle, little petals and glued each one carefully over the Sahara Sand image.Peaceful Petals, Sweetly Framed, Hardwood, Stampin' Up!, Brian King
  • A Gentle Sentiment.  I love for a card front to have a sentiment.  Every once in a while, though, it’s acceptable to let the card be a piece of art with no words.  I was about to go that path with this card because I just loved the entire composition of it.  In the end, I decided to add a small sentiment in White Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  While it’s hidden a bit in the hardwood, I like that the sweet sentiment isn’t bold and overbearing.  It’s a tiny, gentle hug, hidden in the lower, right corner of the card.Peaceful Petals, Sweetly Framed, Hardwood, Stampin' Up!, Brian King
  • A Horizontal Hardwood.  Don’t you just love this Hardwood background stamp?  If I were to cover the background of this card with the Hardwood stamp, the slats would run up-and-down.  I decided to only cover 3/4 of the card with the Hardwood stamp and knew that turning the slats on their side would offer a great look.  I divided stamped image from the clean space on the card with three wraps of white baker’s twine.

Stamp sets:  Peaceful Petals, Sweetly Framed (Hostess)  Papers:  Basic Black, Whisper White, Sahara Sand  Inks:  Jet Black StazOn  Accessories:  Ovals Collection Framelits, White Baker’s Twine, White Stampin’ Emboss Powder, Stampin’ Dimensionals

I made another neutral, floral card a couple of weeks ago.  You can see it here.

Thank you for stopping by today!

Yippie-doodle-dee for your superbly and smartly snipped card Brian!! I don’t know what I love more, your neutral color palette, the way you turned the image from the hardwood stamp on its side, or the subtle itty-bitty thinking of you sentiment!! 🙂 TFS!!

  2. Now that is lovely!

  3. Very well done! Using the wood stamp sideways was a good idea … it made for a great background without overpowering the focal image. And the sentiment (embossed) was just the right touch … love this card, Brian!
