Gifts of Kindess for PPA194

There are some color combinations are just classic.  I would have never thought to pair dark blue, light gray and light purple.  I’m disappointed with myself for not thinking of it on my own.  Without one moment of “creator’s block”, I went to work on this floral card in these not-so-floral colors.  Are you starting to see a trend here?  Here’s my card:

Gifts of Kindness, Teeny Tiny Wishes, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PPA194And here’s the challenge banner for The Pals Paper Arts challenge this week:PPA194 March 6Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Go all the way.  Sometimes it’s fun to be bold with color choices.  While you might see me embrace two colors and then add a smidge of the third color in certain color challenges, I decided from the start to embrace these three colors whole-heartedly.  The tiniest pops of white against a dark background can be very striking.  A large piece of Night of Navy doesn’t photograph so well, but it sure looks lovely in person.
  • Adding a touch of color to these flowers.  I like to think that white embossing powder is becoming a signature of mine (although that might just be wishful thinking).  Anytime I see a stamp with a negative image, I instinctively reach for the white embossing powder – I just love how it looks.  I embossed the image in Smoky Slate on the Night of Navy paper.  I also embossed the image in White Stampin’ Emboss Powder on Wisteria Wonder and then snipped out the flowers.  It’s a subtle difference, but it is an important one.
  • Bold, masculine stripes.  I created bold, masculine stripes behind the image to ground the central panel and to add a masculine strength to these delicate, polka-dotted flowers.  I really like the look of the stripes here.

  1. Another stunner! 🙂

    • I am commenting here (although this isn’t solely for Vicki) so that commenters and comment readers will see it. I just want to say “thank you” to all the kind people who offer their feedback every day. I’m so happy to receive so many great comments each and every day (and I missed you on that day when you didn’t leave a comment). You tell me I inspire you, but you inspire me right back. That gives me the energy and desire to make more beautiful projects to [hopefully] inspire you all over again. From the bottom of my heart, thank you!

  2. You are so right…..love these color combos!!!!

  3. I am really beginning to appreciate these color challenges, Brian. This is an especially lovely combination … one I hope to remember to try. (I’d better write it on a Post-It note!) And, of course, I am very impressed with your two-color embossing on your focal image. Never would have thought to do that!!!

  4. Your embossing is so excellent! 🙂

Brian, you know we love it when you get all Snippy-McSnipster on us, but combine that with your embossing here??!! AND your bold stripes to nail the color challenge??!!! Seriously STUNNING!!!! This card is AMAZINGLY AWESOME!!!! 🙂

  6. Brian, this is a lovely and gorgeously elegant card, this color combination is perfect as a background for the beautifully and artistically embossed and snipped focal image. Changing the sentiment will turn this card into a magnificent masculine birthday or Father’s Day card.
Again, you are the paper snipping KING!!!!!

  7. I felt the same as you when I saw that combo of colors . You nailed it with this card . What stands out to me is putting that whimsical looking flower right smack dab (southern for focal point) in among all that dark color world . The two color embossing is so clever !

  8. The problem with all of your beautiful creations Brian, is that I have to buy everything you use! lol Stampin Up is surely lucky to have such a creative and nice person representing them!!

So – what can I possibly add that others haven’t said? Shall I go through the alphabet? Amazing, beautiful, creative, delicate – etc., etc. Well you get the idea. The double embossing is a new one on me but you can bet your booty I’ll be using it.

The Smokey Slate EP was a great idea, combined with the white snipped flowers. Love my SU snips, but I never do as good of a job as I would like…so how about a new video on the Tips and Tricks of snipping? ( Bandit could co-produce)
And TY, Brian King, for the lovely comment you left for us. You are a gem.
