Stampin’ Up! Dahlia for PPA195

I’m happy to share today’s card.  While yesterday’s card was floral and beautiful (I compliment my card with the utmost humility), the colors were rich, regal hues melted into the white background.  Today’s card, a color challenge for this week’s Pals Paper Arts Challenge, is wall-to-wall gorgeous colors that pop – Rose Red, So Saffron and Wild Wasabi.  Here’s my card:

And here’s the banner for this week’s color challenge:  PPA195

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Mmmmm…Pop!  I admit it – I can’t step away from the White Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  When I decided I wanted a dahlia that really pops in Rose Red, I knew I needed to use Rose Red paper to give the flower its color.  White Stampin’ Emboss Powder to the rescue!  That flower pops, and I cropped it to fit perfectly in the corner of this square of Whisper White.
  • Let All the Colors Play.  There are some color challenges that almost require us to minimize one of the colors – they are just “too much” together.  For this color challenge, though, we get to let all the color play.  Woo hoo!  They look absolutely gorgeous together, so I didn’t let up on any of them.  The fine, graphic pattern on the background piece of So Saffron from the Designer Series Paper Stack adds just the right amount of So Saffron to the face of this card.
  • Layout.  I’m excited by the layout of this card.  Not only did I tuck the dahlia into the corner of the Wild Wasabi and Whisper White square, but I tucked all of that into the corner of the card base.  That leaves a lot of So Saffron and Whisper White space, but there’s still balance – the banner that extends out of the flower and over the edge of the card adds just the right amount of weight to the card.  I used my Hexagon punch to create the tip on my banner.

  1. Another gorgeous card… what a fun color challenge.

    Love it!

  2. I love how the dahlia is cut off the corner. This layout is so CASEable! I agree these colors do play very nicely with each other.

  3. Another stamp set you are making me purchase! lol Love it!!

  4. WOW!! this Dahlia looks amazing embossed like that, so beautiful. Great color combination and your paper snipping is fabulous, as always.

  5. I like this color combo. I think So Saffron is a soft color without looking pastel . Rose Red is one of my big favorites ! I don`t use Wild Wasabi that much ,but I think I will try this trio out today . Believe it or not I was debating on this big Dahlia beauty last night (to buy or not to buy ) in putting together an order . She looks just smashing perched down there in that corner . Happy Thursday ! Oh, and how about part two on your adhesive choices ? Two way Glue Pen ….Snail ….. Glue Stick ….etc.

  6. I keep saying I wint need white embossing powder…I thought at least…it’s beautiful!

  7. Love the colors! I am going to have to get this stamp set.

  8. I have a huge problem cropping my images and only showing a part of them, but after seeing this I get it now! This is perfect!

  9. Another winner! Lately before I look at your card each day, I ask myself, what is Brian going to emboss today. Nice choice today. Lovely.

  10. Love this stamp set, but it’s one I skipped right over in the catalog until seeing it “in real life.” : )

  11. Great card. I had to read twice to realize that Wisteria Wonder in your ingredients list should be Wild Wasabi. Ill CASE this.

    • Changing it now. I think the 2-W name got me! I referred to Wild Wasabi as Wisteria Wonder throughout the post and corrected them before posting – obviously missed one. 🙂 Thanks!

  12. These colors DO POP out at you! Love it! 🙂

  13. I love love love the embossed, cropped and layered dahlia. And I’ve added the hexagon punch idea into my arsenal of banner tricks. Maybe I’ll get more use out of my least used punch now! ( now move along to Six Sided Sampler and inspire me to use that, ok? Thx!)

  14. Hi Brian:
Had to play catch up on posts due to computer glitches these past few days. I want to thank you for always showing your fan club here different ways to use punches. I would never have thought to use the hex punch to cut the points on a banner. I guess I’m just not artistic enough. Also, I love the white embossing powder and use it so much that it is the only embossing powder of all that I have that I have had to repurchase because I used it all up. It seems a container of the SU embossing powder just lasts and lasts and lasts which is great for my budget. Love today’s card, it almost looks like a card within a card.

  15. love love love it! How do you always get white embossing powder to look perfect? I struggle with it- any tricks to share? I second Cindie’s challenge for the six sided sampler, King of Stamping!! Love todays card- I may try a round version! thanks for continued inspiration!!

  16. Very pretty! That’s one of my favorite stamp sets. Love the color combo.

  17. Oh my goodness, I LOVE the colors … all three of them are favorites of mine. And I am blown away by your design today. WOW! Not only do these colors “play well together” as you so aptly described it, but you really nailed the design with your gorgeous dahlia and its placement!

  18. Oh I love this card. I love the Dahlia stamp and when I buy again, I think that will be one of the first things I buy. Lovely card Brian.

  19. It was so kind of you to share this beautiful card with us today! I don’t tell you every day, but I thank you every day for your beautiful creations and the time you take to explain them to us so that we can completely understand. Appreciate you so much!!

  20. This is absolutely gorgeous. This is a must have stamp. Love the white embossing and the Rose Red color in the flower. All of the colors are beautiful together. I have problems putting colors together and these are outstanding. Thanks for sharing.
