A Thousand Thanks for FabFri37

Today is Friday, and it’s also time for a Fab Friday Card Challenge.  As a member of the Fab Friday Design Team, I get to see the challenges in advance.  This week’s sketch has puzzled me for weeks – a page filled with word bubbles.  Yikes!  It seems so simple, but it’s really quite a challenge.  I pondered it for weeks, and a new idea stuck me yesterday morning – when I finally sat down to make the card, everything fell into place.  Don’t you love when that happens?!  Here’s my card:

Lots of Thanks, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, FabFri37

And here’s the sketch from Fab Friday that inspired my project:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • MDS DSP.  With a sentiment that says “A Thousand Thanks,” it seems appropriate for there to as many thank you’s on the card.  I created a background Designer Series Paper with My Digital Studio.   I simply created a text block across an entire sheet and typed “thank you” over and over again.  I printed two pages in Smoky Slate, a page in Cherry Cobbler and a page in Coastal Cabana.  I then cropped the word bubbles with my Word Bubbles Framelits.
  • Sponging.  You know I like to frame most of my images, right?  That’s how I always end up with more layers than a Tootsie Pop (and it take a lot of licks to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop).  Anyway, I needed a border around the word bubbles but certainly didn’t want to freehand cut those, so I sponged around the ends.  The balance of sponging is somewhere between holding the sponge steady while gently swiping the paper across it and holding the paper steady while the sponge moves over it.  The sponging added just the amount of depth I wanted.
  • Color Choice and Layout.  Real Red and Coastal Cabana is a really hot color combination right now.  Instead of bright and bright, I decided to play with the rich and warm Cherry Cobbler with the Coastal Cabana (CC and CC).  I really miss Cherry Cobbler when it’s “out of season” – there’s no reason why this color should ever fall out of season.  I love it paired with Coastal Cabana and Smoky Slate.  I also popped up certain cutouts and glued down others to add dimension.

Stamp set:  A Lot of Thanks  Papers:  Cherry Cobbler, Coastal Cabana, Whisper White  Inks:  Cherry Cobbler, Coastal Cabana, Smoky Slate  Accessories:  Word Bubbles Framelits, Stampin’ Dimensionals.
