FabFri38 Color Challenge

From day-to-day, I try to mix things up for you.  If one day’s card is soft and beautiful, then the next day will surely be bright and playful.  Today is a bit different, though.  Today is the second day in a row of floral cards in Fall-like tones.  As the weather started to cool off a bit over the past couple of days, I couldn’t resist these warm tones.  The colors in today’s card (Pistachio Pudding, Baked Brown Sugar and Sahara Sand) are selected for this week’s FabFriday Challenge.  Here’s my card:

Fabulous Florets, Gently Falling, Million & One, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, FabFri38

And here’s the banner for this week’s challenge:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Maximizing the Color Combination.  With three colors that border on neutural (that’s my intentional combination of neutral and natural), it’s almost critical to let white or vanilla play an important role int he design.  I knew from the start that I wanted a large, white flower so I turned to Fabulous Florets.  While it appears that Sahara Sand takes “backstage credit” here, it’s roll is very important.  Without the Sahara Sand background, the front panel of this card would not pop nearly as much as it does.
  • Leaf it to me.  I searched high and low for leaves that would be home to the flower (I like the base leaves in Fabulous Florets, but I wanted something different).  I tried cropped leaves from the Bird Builder punch, the Little Leaves Sizzlit.  When my eyes spied this leaf from my very-unused-outside-of-Fall set, Gently Falling, I knew I had found my leaf base.  Woo hoo!
  • Less is more.  This is one of the simplest cards I’ve made in quite some time.  That’s necessary every once in a while.  Before gluing everything down, I played with different shapes and textures behind the flower (when I say I played with different things, trust that my craft space is a royal wreck this morning) but decided that the simplest layout would work the best.  Sometimes, you just have to say “pencils down!” and move on.

Stamp sets:  Fabulous Florets, Million & One, Falling Gently  Inks:  Baked Brown Sugar, Pistachio Pudding  Papers:  Sahara Sand, Baked Brown Sugar, Whisper White, Venetian Romance Designer Series Paper  Accessories:  Stampin’ Dimensionals

  13. You are funny! Neutural sounds like something that should happen at a vet clinic, not a crafting term…..

I love today’s simply elegant card. I am one of those that thinks less is more and keep my cards simple all the time. Actually, that is my style about everything I do.
Our personal lifestyle seems to transcend to our art projects. I have a new appreciation for baked brown sugar as of today!
